CA nurses help !!

I'm not from CA but it can take awhile to hear back. I have heard of it taking anywhere from 3 weeks to a year in my state but it could even be longer. In the meantime, I recommend getting yourself a hair drug test right away before it's too late... I think the most it can look back is 3 months. Also, hire a lawyer that deals with the BON in your state as soon as possible.

I find it so disheartening that nurses can't even have a bad day without being reported to the BON. It's past the point of pure ridiculousness!

Do a search for a recent thread from a nurse who has now gone over two years since last dealing with something similar. CA is known for taking a long time to deal with anything, so no telling. I wasn't even asked to do a drug screen .

The kicker is that CA isn't my home state , I have a license in another state . I'm so confused as to if I should get a job , which I desperately need right now .

If there was no failed drug screen , their mistake , and no narcotic discrepancy and no witness to anything how do they even have a case ?

Why should I get a drug screen done now , over 2months after the fact ?

The idea to get a drug screen now, a hair test, is that a hair test would show back three months, so it would prove that you had no drugs in your system at the time of the incident. I don't know if you'd need it, since they didn't even ask for one at the time, but if you get it now, you'll have proof of a negative screen for the time in question. A regular urine drug screen would be of no use, obviously. That would only show drug use in the last few days.

I think anything would help... otherwise there would always be a lingering suspicion you were high. I don't know though... but you should really contact a lawyer. Even a minor punishment like a fine and a reprimand for "strange behaviors" would always be public on your license and would make job hunting difficult.

They have absolutely no proof of anything so go get your job! Maybe they were just making a threat and have no intention of reporting you.This is really awful that an RN can't even have a bad day.

I also see no reason not to get a job... actually it is better if you do as soon as possible so you could pay for a lawyer and also so you would already be employed if there was some kind of public reprimand on your license in the future... depending on what kind of discipline (if any) sometimes it is best to already have a job. I would assume they are reporting you if they told you that they are, and knowing this could take as long as a year or more to actually hear back from the board... I would get a lawyer now. The lawyer might tell you things to do that are time sensitive (such as a hair test). The hair test can only look back 3 months so if you wait too long it would be too late. I don't know for sure if that would even be recommended by the lawyer but it could be and that is what I would do if it was me.
