CA NCLEX retakes?

Published

I've been searching the board website...found out that the test can be retaken in 45 days. I cannot find out whether there is a limit on the times that it can be taken and whether refresher courses are required if the test is failed after a certain number of times. Does anyone out there know?

Exactly, unfortunately there are those that sign up for a retake before that have prepared adequately again. And it gets very expensive.

For the LVN license in Ca, they do not pay the license fee until they have passed the exam. For the RN, they pay each time to the BRN.

All attempts at the exam require a payment of $200 for US testing, and actually $350 for out of the US.

I think this is a great website and this forum especially. Although, reading these postings here is a little nervewracking for me since I am just about to sit for the NCLEX-RN in Spring. Could I have some advise please from those who have failed the test ? What are the main obstacles to be aware of ? My girlfriend and me just signed up with nclex-tutorial.com for a live review class here in San Diego. Is there anyone around here who took this class too ? I hope the Tutorial helps because I really need some guidance, I do not know what to study, how intense and how long. And then all those books. This Tutor company says the average pass rate of their students is up to 90 % among first time exam takers and up to 70 % among those who retake it. Sounds better than the national average. Will see, it is just so much pressure. Everybody expects you to pass after graduating from college. Good Luck for all of you and Happy New Year !

Best of luck to both of you!

Keep in mind that in the NCLEX world, you only have one patient at a time, and all the time in the world. The only problem the patient has is the problem written into the question. There are no 'what ifs', no call bells or bed alarms ringing, no other patients being scheduled for tests. Real world experience can be a distractor in the NCLEX world, so try not to give your NCLEX patients (or yourself) problems that aren't there ...If you get questions that are 'prioritizing' then think long and hard about which condition is most life threatening to the patient, and remember, in the NCLEX world, no one ever dies from pain.

Hi Absolute beginner. I did well with the tutorial program that you took. We had a small group, 28 students and I think everybody passed.

Yes, www.nclex-tutorial.com is straightforward, affordable, provides great study materials and make you pass absolutebeginner. I could have saved 2000 Dollars and a lot of my nerves if I would have used them right away.

There are no public statistics that state the number of retakes a person makes to pass their boards. I think you are exaggerating to make your point. A person will decide on their own whether it is worth the time and effort to study for their boards.

Since you are from the old school, you have not had the unique of experience of adaptive testing, the computerized NCLEX boards. It is totally based on whether you got the last answer correct or not. If you have some "hard" questions at the beginning, you may end up so far below the "pass" line that you may not end up passing the nursing boards. Everyone who takes it has a different test. So please give the newbies a little slack. They are nervous enough as it is.

Remember what it was like to walk in a new grad's shoes. I have seen some discussions on this forum where someone passed after three tries and they have had the support of the people on the board. It take a lot to get back into study mode again after not passing. Give people some support instead of making them feel bad. Feel a little of the holiday spirit! Hope you have a compassionate day.

My friend's aunt had to take the NCLEX-RN test 20 times before passing and now she's a successful Nurse Manager...of course this was about 15-20 years ago. But I agree with you that it becomes more difficult to re-take the test after failing 3x. It really messes with your head and makes you doubt yourself which affects you while taking the test. I know if it were me I would like support from as many people during my low moments.
