CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

@ pogingnurse, can u please keep us posted, on how it goes?..i need to take OB and MS too..by the way wat school is that and where?..thanks

Mjhay,did try CCSF?you're from San Jose,right?

yep, am here in san jose, i heard the ccsf but i haven't tried it yet,..

i read ur post while ago and there some requirements needed to apply. definitely, i have no problem with that, as long as they can cater us, that would be really nice tho, but am wondering about the "space-available basis", do u have any idea if how long we gonna wait for that?..thanks..

actually i found a school and im just waiting for their answer, and they told me that they are accepting those kind of situation. so im praying that they are going to accept me and tell me i can start right away :D im just hoping that is not gonna take that long to take those subjects. i also having problem with my financial but my friends are telling me that i can apply for a loan or something. but i'll think about that after they accept me, the important thing right now is there is a possible school that i can go and take both MS and OB :) GODBLESS US ALL :)

Good deal...while you have not identified the school, make sure they are actually approved by the CA BON. You should always check with the CA BON directly by getting the answer from the BON to see they are accredited, meets CA BON requirements, etc.

Do not simply take the school's words or if they have a great website. There have been many co-called nursing programs that just prey on those needing assistance and they charge a lot of money for a semester or two. Some try to associate themselves with another university or college, but it doesn't mean they are approved, unless you can prove they are. I say you need to "prove" it, which means you have done your own investigation and completely satisified.

There have been "doctors" and nurses that establish a side-line businesses, they have convincing credentials, letters of testimonies, etc, but that doesn't mean they are or have been APPROVED by the CA BON.

There's a link in the above reference to contact the CA BON for any questions, use them for your peace of mind.

Ultimately, the main decision maker is going to be your CA BON review person, so you need to make sure you have done your homework and research before giving a school or person any monies to them. Good luck!

don't worry im really sure that is an accredited school and approved by CA BON :) dont worry guys ill keep you posted if they approve me :) im praying that i will start soon, i hope its not that long to take MS and OB and i hope it's not that expensive.lol. :) Don't worry guys, we are all going to be a USRN. lets just pray and dont give up :) GODBLESS US ALL :)

Guys just want to let you know before you plan on going back to school, you must have a back up plans first, like challenging LVN for an instance.Because it's not that easy to get into a nursing school just for the deficiencies to make up.Most of the colleges here are lottery or in a waiting list, for example, out of 800 students who enrolled for this year, only 80 students who will be accepted. So it's really a long process. But if you really want to go back to school, you better start processing your requirements. My friend and I have been looking for a schools for 3 months now. Some schools requires an evaluation of our transcript from an evaluation agency and have it converted to US transcripts.it's really frustrating but I'll never give up.

Keep us posted guys.God bless us ALL?:)

@mjhay Hi Kabayan! How's your application for LVN, did you get your eligibility already?

I got same dilemma too. so to make my burden and story short I think.. CA BON treat applicants differently. Coz for ex. if the applicant is already RN in their country (for ex. PHIL) they'll not ask for more requirements. Compare to un-licensed one, they ask for many crap and stuff then after you stated the reason why you're not holding a license they still ask for many paperworks and yet denied you at the end? I just apply this March 2012 and recieved my checklist to be done but I'm thinking if Im gonna still pursue my RN career.

Hi, I'm BSN grad and RN in Phil and they are asking same requirements so I think they are not treating applicants differently.

Hello Guys, I'm afraid i might end up like all the others who are applying for their eligibility in CA. I also graduated in the Philippines around 2009 and have almost 2 years of hospital experience in my pocket. I just got in CA around February this year and currently residing here. I was just starting my application for NCLEX-RN but since i knew about the concurency issues recently from this forum, i'm thinking i should withdraw with my application now. What should i do? Should i just go to LVN? Can someone enlighten me. Feels really bad for everyone having the same problem though. Let's just be hopeful! :)
