When you buy textbooks that come with CD-ROMs from an online source (web-sites such as Amazon, Half.com, Bigwords.com, etc. etc.), are those textbooks automatically guaranteed to come with the CD that is originally included when bought brand new, unless stated otherwise?
Does each web-site have a different policy on this?
How can I be sure that I will get the accompanying CDs I need with the textbooks that I want to buy through Amazon?
I would appreciate any advice on this matter!

You are just going to have to read the descriptions and see whether or not they come with CDs. If it doesn't specify, then don't buy it.

agreed. I had classmates that bought the text but no CD came w/. It's hard to just find the CD sometimes. I just always buy new. I HATE not having a CD, b/c they're usually awesome, and I hate others highlight marks. Poopoo.
I've never actually used a CD that came with a book.
Usually, wherever you buy the book from, it will say whether or not the CD is included or it might say "CD may or may not be included".

Exactly :) I bought some of my books from Half.com, and if the description of the book said it would come with a CD, the book did come with a CD.
Thanks for the tips! I will be sure to check the descriptions. :redpinkhe

And if not stated, perhaps you can send a message asking for this info.

Hi H0pefulStdnt,
When buying used textbooks from online sources, like Amazon, you can contact the seller of the book. I have contacted sellers in the past to ask if the CD was included or to confirm which edition they had for sale and even asked questions about the condition of the book.
At Amazon's website when you click on the seller's name you are redirected to another page that has a "related links" area. This is where you can find the link "contact this seller".
To avoid disappointment, confirm the details before going through with the transaction. I buy most of my textbooks online, it's a great cost efficient option for students.

This is a bit off topic, but I've found that I never use any of the CD's that come with my books. I was too busy studying from books and notes, and my grades were fine.
I've never used any either. I have contacted professors and instructors ahead of time to see if I needed it. The answer is always yes and no, we never use them.

I always bought books that stated they came with the CD. If they have it, they will state it as it is a selling point. I always bought books that had no highlighting/writing in them and I still saved a TON of $$. $200 new at the bookstore, $150 new on Amazon, and a good used book with no writing and the CD for $100.
I asked my advisor if we need the CDs that come with the textbooks, and she said yes. Why am I not surprised? I don't want to take any chances, I know it's next to impossible to find the CDs independent of the textbooks. So hopefully I can find people selling the textbooks I need along with the CDs!
