I've purchased books from half.com a few times. And everything has been fine so far. Recently I purchased a book from there and the person could not ship to me for whatever reason. They promptly credited my credit card account and that was that.
Also check Amazon Market Place. I ended up having to buy from someone on there and you know what it was cheaper. Oh and here is the web address of the company through amazon I purchased from. I think they buy back books.

I always buy my online if at all possible. I find that it's always considerably cheaper than going to the bookstore. I had to buy 2 books today and for one at the bookstore it was going to be $80 but I went online to amazon.com and got two books for $80 with next day shipping. And I had to buy them directly from amazon and not used because I need them so fast.
I've never had any problems buying anything online.

Yeah, half .com has been around for quite a while (it's linked with ebay-I don't know if they're sister companies or what) and are quite reputable, so I wouldn't worry about sharing your CC information.
Having said that, I've both purchased and sold most of my textbooks online. My favorite was a $245 chem book I got for $35 on one of the 2 sites (half or amazon). It was "flawed"--ie it had about 20 total pages (out of over 400) with highlighting, plus the original owner's name written in pen on the inside cover. What a steal!

half.com is a part of ebay now and is very secure...millions of people have made transactions through both ebay and half and are happy with their services. i myself am an ebay, amazon, and half junkie and have never, ever had any problem with putting in my credit card information. as long as you regularly change your account passwords, you're perfectly safe.
as far as buying textbooks online, go for it! selling them as well...we've (my fiance and i) have sold back books on ebay before and done very well...much better than them just sitting on the bookshelves for years and never being used! all three of the sites i mentioned earlier are great sources for buying books and as bethin said, they're usually at the fraction of the price the college bookstore is selling them at. granted, there's always the chance of shipping problems and them not arriving in time for your classes, but that's rare. good luck! ebay and half.com can be extremely addicting and fun once you bite the bullet and start buying/selling things!

I looked on many sites including half.com and other, but found that after paying shipping, it was just as much (within a few cents) of what I would be paying purchasing them from school. So... that is what I did. I got all the books for the course for $397.

I was, but decided not to and here's why.
First, I won't buy a used book that has any highlights or notes in it. I have always been able to find one...you just don't know what you are going to get with a used book online.
Second, every bookstore is different, but by the time you added in shipping and everything...there was only a $22.00 savings between the books at my bookstore and the ones online...I priced half.com, bookbyte.com and amazon.com.
To me, $22.00 wasn't worth the hassle of possibly not getting them on time or getting an international version, which I did not want.

I asked all the people I bought from about their books and none of mine have any highlighting or writing in them. I got two from a girl that had to drop out right after she got them so they are perfect and because I bid on them I saved about 25.00 on each one including shipping. Most people on Ebay are students selling books if they are nursing books and they are all very honest and good to deal with.:balloons:
