Butte College RN Program

Published

I have consecutively applied to the Butte College Nursing Program for the last 4 semesters (2 years!). When I first applied, I was aware of the waiting list but I was told that the 4th time applying would guarantee a spot in the program due to the increase in chances every semester. I just emailed the program directer who was very nice and helpful, but informed me that most students are getting in their 6th or 7th time applying! I would love to hear from others who are working toward the Butte RN program, how many times they have applied and so on...would love to hear some feedback on other's experiences!

Got my rejection notice too blah

I got another rejection too (#6). Hopefully 7th app is it. I called and talked to Lori, who I believe is the director/chair and she said that 65% of seats go to 7th time applicants, but since they are having a little bit of trouble finding clinical placements they are seeing some unlucky souls go to an 8th app. She also said that last semester they were able to place 18/20 people on the waitlist.

Does anybody know the size of each class?

Wow, that is terrible that they are having trouble getting clinical placements...

I believe this is happening everywhere at the moment due to the COVID crisis. I finished my sterilization program and passed the licensing exam in February of this year. The externship program that is offered at that institution is finding it difficult to place students into clinics and hospitals because of COVID and not wanting to compromise neither the patients nor the medical staffs health. The group before us that passed their exams are currently still being placed due to COVID. Luckily, without experience I was able to get hired by Mercy Medical and am starting on the 11th of October. Hopefully, we reach herd immunity and everything goes back to normal so clinical placements are much smoother.

For sure, at an SMU meeting, they said the only places that still haven't opened back up for clinicals are mental health. But all the hospitals are good as long as you are fully vaccinated. In the Sacramento area.

Wow I would think with 65% on the 7th that we would see some people in this get in on a different round but it never seems to be the case.

On my 7th application, I was number 18 out of 20 on the waitlist for the class that just started this semester, and I received notification that a spot had opened up for me in mid-July, so I'm in 1st semester at Butte currently. We have 48 students in our cohort.

OK thanks and congrats. So it sounds like 31-32 spots of 48 go to 7th applicants, but it also sounds like there are more than that amount of 7th applicants in each cycle. ?

I wonder if anyone ever gets in on their fourth application? Waiting for rejection letter. Anyone heard anything on theirs yet?

Just looked back at my #5 rejection and they said next lottery is in march. Waiting on #6 and then hopefully in the fall or at the very least next Spring I get in.

I have not heard anything. It will be my 6th rejection LOL

I have not heard of anyone getting in on their 4th. But anything is possible. even if the chance is very small.

On my 6th try too. I spoke with one of the girls in the nursing department and they said we will know by the end of march, fingers crossed for everyone!
