Hello, Everyone, I’m a brand new nurse. I have been working as an RN for a month now. I’m already so exhausted and burnt out. I work 3 12’s on the weekend nights, and have classes from 0800-1600 Tuesday-Thursday during the week for my organization. I get about one day off at this point. I’m physically and mentally exhausted. I have encountered a lot of drama because other nurse’s really enjoy eating their young. I have dealt with lies and accusations for weeks. My management doesn’t even ask for my side half the time. I just get my butt chewed out and sent back to the floor. As there any tips for combatting other nurses eating me alive and exhaustion with all the hours I am working?

I have zero clue. I work about 52+ hours a week. I do know my educator is new and she made my schedule.

That’s 12 hours of overtime every week. Are they paying the 12 hours overtime or do they have it written into your contract that there is no overtime?? I suspect it’s the latter.

This was already a poor deal for you with the flipping from nights to classroom days and extra hours but given the accusations of drug diversion, professional misconduct and verbally abusing patients (this is probably what a complaint to your BON would read) I think this job is putting your license at risk.

Read your contract carefully and see what notice you need to give and start looking for a new job asap. The notion that you look bad for quitting a job in the first year is a little outdated these days and having a job that “wasn’t a good fit” on your resume is much better than the years long nightmare of having a BS complaint against your license to the BON. Best of Luck!

I think they are afraid of being made out it’s so many scenarios is there something more we can’t quiet piece together?

This is more than burnout. The OP is being targeted.

Nop nop nop, leave. Secure another job first if you have no money saved up. There is no reason you should torture yourself staying in a job that doesnt have your back. I too was bullied my first year of nursing. Looking back on it, I should  have said something.  Whats worse is I do stand up for myself, but I didn't then.. so I get it, you got thrown to the wolves, 12 hours of relentless assault will take your mental health down low.

Plus. If they keep accusing you of XYZ, eventually they will get you fired. Id leave first.

PS: do not let remarks such as "you're jot cut for that job" take you down. Truth is, these people are not cut for this job. Nursing is about teamwork and your people having your back.

100%. It's bullying 101.

It's very easy to unintentionally match drama for drama when stressed. It's somewhat a natural reaction. But if you want solutions you have to examine things to know where to go.

Way to blame the victim. Bullying in nursing has been documented and reported countless times, research papers writen. It is not in her head and you shouldn't imply so.

To be fair this was JKL’s first response to the OP who had not given many details regarding what was going on. In a subsequent post the OP provided more details and JKL responded in a manner that the OP found extremely helpful. Your accusation is more than a bit unfounded given the totality of what JKL wrote and calling her out is unwarranted.

If that's what you took away from everything I took the time to write, I have nothing further to say.

If you care to take any time to read how much I hate large hospital systems and how they treat nurses and whose fault that is, you might get a better idea what you're commenting on.

Run. Run far. Run fast. This could ruin your life. Anybody this malicious will not stop. I would consider getting an attorney and compelling them to reveal who did this. Then I would consider suing their *** into the next century. This happened to me. It did not end well.

I’m normally not this reactive but having gone through almost the exact thing you’re going through I’m telling you this isn’t ever going to end. It’s only going to get worse. You will be defenseless and at the mercy of some very sick people. No job is worth it. Keep your head down, look for a new job even if it’s at Walmart and get the heck out of there.

Ditto!  Happened to me as well.  Be very, very careful and move on as soon as you can.
