It's a full-ride scholarship as long as you commit to 2 years of service after graduation/NCLEX.

Has anyone ever utilized this scholarship? If so, I'd like to hear about the pros/cons as well as anecdotal experiences.

At the very least, I've brought it to the attention of some students that didn't otherwise know about it before.

Thanks for that link! I want to return to school, but will definitely need financial help to do so. I bookmarked that link so I can research it further tomorrow.:)

Not a problem -- pass it along. Scholarships like this enable & empower!

One more thing -- FAFSA deadline is June 30 and I believe a FAFSA on file is required for this. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Still hoping for info. so I'm ^ bumping ^ this back to the top of the heap. :D

Hope that you all know the deadline for this year's scholarship was May 27th. It won't be available until next year.

The June 30 deadline applies for the 2004-2005 school year. The upcoming 2005-2006 school year is still much available to be applied for. And something many may not know...you can apply for fafsa and if eligible, for example, for pell grants, fafsa will reimburse you for the 2004-2005 school year as long as application is in by June 30. Hope this clarifies the post.

It is very hard to get this. Although anyone can apply, the first preference is given to undergraduate nursing students with an efc of zero. Even in that group I think the odds were about 50:1 of receiving it with it being done in a lottery type fashion. I have been a RN for ten years and returned to school a year ago with the goal of a MSN. I know many states are offering scholarships for nurses continuing their education since there is a shortage however there is nothing like that in Tennessee. Does anyone know of any other programs. It seems a shame since there are many who are already good nurses who want to stay in the field yet continue their education but are hindered because of the cost. With the nursing shortage it would seem that there would be incentive for experienced nurses to move up in the field but it doesn't seem to be that way.

Thanks,

Ann

Yikes. 50-1 odds?

So you are saying that as an MSN seeker your odds are way worse than someone seeking a BSN, for example?

What I am saying is that julie applies. She is going for her BSN and has no efc. Now Jim has decided he want to get his graduate degree in nursing and his fafsa also showedd some money And here we have Ann (me) an experienced nurse working first toward my BSN my efc is$1000 . Julie is going to be the only one that they will even look at . This is the group going for undergrad with a efc of zero. When I applied last year (so my numbers may not be exact)there were 5,0000applicants that fit my same crieteria. There were areound 200 awards. Lottery system. I think I was notified that I did not get it about mid-October. It's a nice probram but it isn't enough.

Thank you, it's crystal clear to me now.
