Bunker Hill Community College Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Is there anyone currently in the BHCC Nursing Alternative program? I just completed my application for the fall 2017 and wanted to confirm If it's just one night a week & weekends. I'm nervous about getting accepted, since my TEAS score was just a 76%. But my GPA is 3.97, so I hope this will help me.

I'm also waiting to receive an acceptance letter from BHCC for the fall ASN program. However, I stumbled on something this afternoon...it appears that their program's ACEN status is "accredited with warning" with a follow up visit scheduled for fall 2018. According to the acenursing.org FAQs :

Q. What does it mean if a program is accredited with conditions”, with warning” or with warning for good cause?”

A. There are six (6) ACEN accreditation standards that nursing programs must meet to be accredited by ACEN. Continuing accreditation with conditions is granted when a program is found to be in non-compliance with one (1) or two (2) accreditation standards. The program's next review and follow-up action(s) are determined by the Board of Commissioners. Continuing accreditation with warning is granted when a program is found to be in non-compliance with three (3) or more accreditation standards. Continuing accreditation with warning for good cause could be granted when a program has not remedied deficiencies at the conclusion of its maximum monitoring period and the program meets all three (3) principles for good cause. The program's next review and follow-up action(s) are determined by the Board of Commissioners.

I'm completely panicked...does anyone know what this means in practical terms? Will graduates of this program have a decent education or be able to find a job?

This is what I found:

Bunker Hill Community College (Associate) Boston, MA related to non-compliance with:

Standard 2 Faculty and Staff, Criterion 2.3

There is a lack of evidence that the faculty credentials meet governing organization and state requirements and consistent documentation is maintained.

Standard 4 Curriculum, Criteria 4.1 and 4.3

There is a lack of evidence that the curriculum incorporates established professional standards, guidelines, and competencies consistent with contemporary practice.

There is a lack of evidence that the curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure integrity, rigor, and currency and consistent documentation is maintained.

Standard 6 Outcomes, Criterion 6.1

There is a lack of evidence that the evaluation plan emphasizes the ongoing assessment and evaluation of the student learning outcomes and the role-specific graduate

There is a lack of evidence that all expected levels of achievement are stated in specific and measurable terms.

There is a lack of evidence that the assessment methods are congruent with the expected levels of achievement and result in meaningful data.

Sounds to me that there's a lot of disorganization going on. My friend who is currently in the program is upset at the lack of help the faculty offers. We should pressure the school to give us explanations, we are paying for these classes, it can't all go to waste If they don't get organized.

I stopped by the Deans office today. Forget the name of the woman I spoke to, but she said the warnings are more about paperwork. Not sure what I think of that, but she also told me they are in the process of hiring a new Dean. Maybe that will improve the situation? Also said they are meeting next week to review the applications, letters "should" go out the following week.

It makes sense that things are delayed if they are having to deal with ACEN accreditation issues. I know a lot of schools it can be something as simple as faculty not having a Masters in Nursing. I know they have been trying to hire a new Dean for a little while too so I imagine the office is very busy. That along with finals and graduation can explain the delay.

Fingers crossed we hear this week though!! :nailbiting:
