Bsn program at UFV

Hi there, I am currently applying for the fall 2011 class at UFV and have my interview tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the gpa and volunteer hours needed for acceptance. This is my second attempt at trying to get in as I was not accepted with a 3.3 gpa and 50 hrs volunteer I was told the average for last winters gpa was around 3.8!

I was also wondering if anyone had any advice on the the interview?:)

I am very nervous and am really hoping to be accepted for this fall.

I am from Chilliwack BC and that is where my BSN program is as well at the university of the fraser valley chilliwack campus

Will move this to the Canadian forum for better responses

A 3.8 GPA? Wow, that's pretty high.. I have 62 credits and a 3.0 GPA and was hoping that was good enough...

where are you applying to?

I applied at UFV, Douglas and BCIT. I have over 500 hours of work experience at a retirement community as well but everyone I talk to has different things. How did your interview go? I have applied for the January 2012 intake.

I am an alumni from UFV and from what I have heard, it is not based solely on GPA. They really want to know that you are stable and supported during your stent as a Nursing student. It is a tough program and trust me you will need the support. So ensure you share that you will be well supported ect. They even want to know how you will pay rent/mortgages ect and pay for your schooling. It is a lovely school with excellent instructors! Just be yourself and let them know why you want to be a nurse and why you think being a well rounded student is important! Good luck!@

my interview went really well. It was my second time applying though. Did you also apply for sept before the jan 2012?

because the first time i applied was last jan and i was not accepted however i did not change anything and was accepted with the same amount of volunteer hours/ gpa that i had originally applied with...

This is my first time applying actually so I'm hoping for the best but I won't be heartbroken if I have to wait. It seems like a lot of people have to, so be it! It would just be really, really nice to start in Jan :) Thanks for your replies ladies!!

I have applied for the Jan 2012 intake also. I just got my completed application letter and will follow with the information session time. I have read a lot on this site and seems like academics is not always the most important thing. I have all B's for Bio, Chem, Eng and Math. I have 100 hours of volunteer in a retirement home and completed two non nursing electives. I'm hoping this will be enough! So nervous for the interview!! If anyone has any advice...it would be much appreciated!!!

Good luck everyone :)

I'm pretty nervous for the interview too, but I really just want to get it over with and start the program! I heard that the nursing students in their third year I think have the option of doing a 3 week study abroad session in Belize!! Working in a hospital and everything, umm AMAZING.

That does sound amazing! I have heard the interview is nothing at all to be nervous about. Its just worth a lot of points in the points system so very intimidating! But yes, will be nice to get that all over and done with!
