BSN program says no to challenging NCLEX-PN

Nursing Students General Students

In a previous post, I posted that the current BSN program I was in put me on probation because my gpa fell below a 2.5. The CON gave me Spring 2009 to get straight A's to raise the gpa and continue in the program. I did not get straight A's spring semester and with only 12 credits to graduate I am no longer a nursing student.

I've asked the program coordinator to at least write to the board of nursing so I can sit for my NCLEX-PN. Apparently, BSN programs (and I quote the coordinator) "trains baccalaureate nurses, not vocational and allowing me to sit for the NCLEX-PN would go against what the school stands for".

Baccalaureate or vocational - the fact is this school has left me with no options. My nursing gpa is low and I cannot apply to another nursing program. To the nursing programs that I can apply, not all nursing credits will transfer. Other options are to change majors or become a CNA. Can' really pay the bills and student loans on CNA salary and I still believe I should be a nurse.

Open to any suggestions on this crappy situation.

Continue to search for a program that will take you, don't be concerned with losing credits. Just look for a seat. Or apply to a proprietary LPN or RN program, but be prepared to go into deep debt to pay for it. Alternatively, go into the Excelsior College program if FL recognizes it.

I agree with the above! There has to be some program that will take you, you'll probably have to retake classes, but the upside to that is you should get a great grade! I went into the first program that didnt have a waiting list, they only offer the PN portion. What we were not told is that our credits dont transfer as other colleges consider my school as a vocational school, not the private school that we were told it was. So 3 weeks from graduation some of us are scrambling for a program that will take us to obtain our RN. Worst case scenerio is that I have to take some of the same classes over agian which costs time and money, neither of which I have tons of with kids. However, I should get awesome grades!!! Good luck and dont give up, there has to be some alternative. Where there's a will, theres a way right!!:)

I think you need to do more research because I know someone that failed EVERY class and was kicked out of nursing school and got into another BSN program. You may have to start over, but u can still be a nurse!

I agree with the others, find a BSN program that will accept you and don't worry about credits not transfering. What's done is done, only thing to do is push ahead and do what is needed to complete your degree.
