Hi all. I am looking at two schools right now in Ohio. Brown Mackie and Great Oaks. There is a huge difference in tuition between the two Brown Mackie is approx $20,000 and Great Oaks is $8800 I believe. There are good points about Brown Mackie that I like such as one class per month and you do get IV certification. I do intend on getting my RN one day after I have worked as an LPN for awhile so I don't know if it is wise to spend so much on the LPN and to turn around and spend that much more on my RN. Does anyone know anything about these two schools? Anyone take the programs at either and if so how was it? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!!!

Cost aside, which school has the better NCLEX-PN pass rate?

If I'm not mistaken, Brown Mackie is in the Findlay area. Have you considered Rhodes State in Lima? They offer both LPN and RN
Well the Brown Mackie college I am looking into is in Cincinnati. They just got the LPN program at that branch so they couldn't give me pass rates for that branch but did say the Findlay branch had a 96% pass rate. I don't know the pass rate for Great Oaks. So do you think I should put the cost aside if Brown Mackie has the better pass rate? I need to find out the other so I can compare. Thanks for the input!

Hello,
I work at a hospital which has Greak Oaks students do the clinicals there. The instructors are extremely knowledgable, and the students are not passed on unless they are absolutely ready to be.
For Great Oaks, pass rates as follows:
2002: 84.16%
2003: 82.11%
2004: 90.07%
For Brown Macke pass rates:
there are no stats available
There is another good program in Hillsboro, Ohio at Southern State Community College. The pass rates are:
2002: 100%
2003: 87.80%
2004: 95.00%
To find pass statistics on these and other schools, go to:
http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/PDFS/2002-2004-PN.pdf
Thanks that does help. Thanks also for the website.

Well I just recently graduated from the Great Oaks program and I have to say I loved it. I really loved going to school there the instructors will work with you and they know their stuff and expected nothing less from us. I enjoyed my time there and would recommend it to other people interested in becoming a practical nurse. I was on their Scarlet campus but they have more than one campus and they have evening and day programs. I have also heard that on their Diamond campus they are doing things on the weekend. Couldn't hurt to check them out.
Thanks for sharing your information on Great Oaks. I am going to look into their program. Good luck to you in your new career!

I am just about to graduate from Scarlet Oaks. I have enjoyed the program, and feel well-prepared to become a nurse. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who is interested in pursuing practical nursing. Graduation will be bittersweet as I'm very ready to complete the program, but will undeniably miss some of my classmates and instructors. I attended the evening program, which is 18 months. The evening program's length allows ample time for processing all the information you learn. However, it also gives you ample time to form strong bonds with instructors and classmates. Of course, that's a wonderful thing, but it also makes graduation a bittersweet time. I will miss going to school there. It is definitely worth your while to consider this program!
