Brown Mackie College

This is a fairly new college here in Indiana - I think they bought out Michiana College? Anyone know the tuition rates for Practical Nursing and Occupational Therapy Assistant? Are they any good at all? I have heard positive and negatives from other states. I emailed them - but they want me to sign on the dotted line without giving much info. You Hoosiers will know what I mean when I say how hard it is to get into a nursing program here (or any allied health program). I have tons of credit hours already - have the Ivy Tech ones with a 4.0 and still didn't get in.

Specializes in lots of different areas.

What did you get on the PSB for Ivy Tech?? I would demand they give you a reason as to why you weren't accepted into the program. Especially if you've been waiting and have a 4.0 GPA.

Just my opinion! Jenny

And sorry, I don't know anything about Macky college...

Anyone know anything about Brown Mackie? I have heard they are expensive - very. Ivy Tech has 300 to 800 per available slot - many with the highest scores just like me - so lots of people don't get in. Plus people on welfare programs are admitted first in my county and sourounding counties and since I am not on welfare programs - that puts me at a disadvantage.

I have heard both good and bad about BM. I am not even going to mess with Ivy Tech, I would doing pre recs forever and by the time I am finished with them I would have my LPN through BM. BM is about 14,500 for the entire program and books. Has anyone else started or going to start at BM?

Where is Brown Mackie at? I wouldn't waste my time on Ivy tech b/c they are starting to add more pre-reqs and by the time you would complete all those you could have been to a private college and got your bachelors degree in nursing.. Just my opinion... :)

I know there is a campus in Michigan City on Hwy 20.

South Bend and Merrillville have the LPN. I am not sure about Michigan City.

i know much about brown mackie college, i attended Brown Mackie College about 4 years ago, it was then called Commonwealth Business in Merrillville. Personally, i don't recommend the college, i went to college there for about 19 months and am now in debt by $10,000 it would be okay if my credits would transfer to another college, but they wont. I tried transferring my credits to about 15 colleges in indiana, and not one would transfer. Please be careful in the colleges you choose to attend, because if it doesn't work out for you, your stuck with debt and no degree.

Have you looked into IU or Purdue? How about their local campuses? I know a lot of the Ivy Tech ones will transfer to IU. They have an ASN program you might want to look at.

Just an idea...

Heather

Yep, Purdue North Central and Purdue Calumet both have and ADN program.

Hey there, I am from Lawrenceburg, IN and STILL waiting for a nursing class to get into, then I found Brown Mackie, thinking of starting in November, just a few weeks, otherwise i will have to wait for Aug. to go to Ivy Tech when I could ALREADY have my LPN. Are you currently attending?

I started in September 2005. It is expensive, but if you get a student loan you have 10 years to pay it off. I think its worth it since the waiting list at other schools are ridiculous. And once you graduate you won't have a problem finding a job because nursing staff is so short worldwide they really don't care what college you graduated from as long as you have your license. But I have to say that I have heard good and bad things about this school and others. In my opinion the teachers are well educated, you have 48hrs of theory and 48hrs of clinicals each month, and if you fail a rotation, you won't have to wait another semester/year to retake the class because they start every month.

i dont live in indiana but my best friend does she lives in hidden valley and she checked into bm college the cost is awful it was something like $270.00 per credit hour that is crazy i dont know how close you live to cincinnati but the schools are alot cheaper
