Broward College Nursing Program January 2021

Published

I am a prospective student for the BC nursing program in January 2021. Is anyone else planning to apply? I know it will be a bit different than normal due to Covid so I wanted to see where everyone was at in the process. Have you taken the HESI yet? I am wrapping up the last of my prerequisite classes now.

@CharleneChar Yes, please let me know if you find the thread or get confirmation about the summers off! I totally agree, I want to do it all at once and be done ?.
I just took the HESI on Sunday and feel so relieved that part is over with now.

Do you guys know the approximate days/hours the full time program is? Like is it usually 5 days a week, 8 hour days or something like that?

@KT2021 Do you know what the average schedule for the full time program is? I'm just curious about how many days a week the classes/clinicals usually are.

So for the first semester, lecture will be Monday and Fridays 4 hours. Then pharmacology on Monday evening (6-8pm) depending on which block you choose Math will be either Monday or Thursday but Math is only 4 weeks. Clinical/labs Tuesday or Wednesday 10-12 hours.

Monday’s are pretty much full days.

Tuesday or Wednesday full days.
Thursday if you have math 1/2 a day.

Friday is a 1/2 day.

But.... the first two weeks you will have to be on site pretty much all week for workshops.

Also... I don’t know what’s changed since the Covid-19.. I guess we will see.

Hi everyone,

I am also applying for January 2021 full time program.

Does anyone know if the program goes straight through the Summer or if there is a Summer break? I know the program is 5 semesters long but I was reading in another thread that it ends up feeling more like 7 semesters long due to taking summers off?

Basically, does anyone know the completion date?

Good luck to everyone applying!! ?

It’s 5 semesters, there is one lecture and lab in the Summer from May - June. Then we have June-August off.

The last semester would be fall 2022, however, I don’t know what’s going to happen with clinicals and labs due to COVID-19 and being that Flu season will be upon us. IDK how that will hinder our schedules, progression or graduation dates. ??‍♀️

Hope this little info helps you all get a better understanding on schedules and semesters! Just a reminder that it can all be changed due to the pandemic and the rising numbers in our state...

Ah I see, so we do get somewhat of a Summer break! Okay, thank you!

Thank you for clearing up my confusion with the schedule @KT2021! Have you (or anyone) heard what's going on with the current and new students dealing with covid setbacks? I'm guessing somehow all of their classes are online? I hope it's not delaying or making the program longer than normal.

@Courtneyy I haven't heard anything, I'm considering waiting to apply for May instead because I would prefer not to be stuck doing nursing school online. I have a few friends attending West Coast and Keiser, and I know their programs have switched to being completely online until covid ends... so I assume Broward would do the same. I don't see covid being gone by January but nobody knows LOL ?

One of my friends in the August term so far has said they are doing online for now and might limit the amount of students on campus

Does anyone know if they are waiving the 30 day wait before taking the HESI again? Just in case I have to take it twice LOL

@CharleneChar Have you heard from your friends if the online classes are more difficult than they would be in person?

Unfortunately, it seems like we won’t know for a while if January classes will be online or not.

@Lolura0 Did your friend say how the classes are online? Do you know which classes we will be taking first?.... I just hope doing the program online won’t be more difficult than it is in person.

@Jazzy98 The last I heard was the requirements for the HESI were the same as they were prior, so I don’t think we can take it sooner than 30 days after. But I’ll let you know if I hear differently!

When so you have your test scheduled for?

She told me so far they haven’t had lectures just going over PowerPoints and the classes depend on what you pick. When you get accepted they sent paperwork explaining how to pick your classes. And she said they are working on a way of opening the campus so some classes can be in person and to practice hands on.

Hi,

I have applied for both the FT and PT program in January. I have already applied and was accepted for Summer and Fall, but due to COVID uncertainty, I was unable to accept my seat in the class.

I'm not the best at this, but for the HESI, the key is to study sections at a time. I didn't find it to be too hard (A&P was my only real concern, as I took both classes as a Fast Track in 1 semester, and it was a blur to me.) I will attach study guides that really helped me with studying. But, also this book helped as well

The library's tech center (2nd floor of library) also had some really good books to check out, and I did look over the yellow and black one the day of my exam, just to refresh my brain.

I passed on the first go, and was willing to retake to get a higher score, but I was told they're only looking for a PASSING score.

My A&P was A LOT of A&P 2 questions.

The reading part was really easy, but really long in my opinion. I knew I was going to kill that section, so I did it last, but I probably would have done it first. It took a while, and I was sleepy by the time I got to that part.

Lastly, take the test when you're the most well rested but alert. I did mine first thing in the morning. Eat a good breakfast, and use the bathroom before!

Good luck!!
