Broward College Nursing Program August 2016

Updated:   Published

Hello!

I just wanted to make a thread for nursing program at BC for this coming Fall semester.

I passed the Hesi last week after 4 days of studying. (Got tired of studying the Elvesier book so I took my chances)

My overall score: 85%. My lowest score's reading: 78% ( English is my second language and I took this section last so didn't have enough time to really read the questions)

I turned in my application last Wednesday. The lady said to look for an email around May- June.

Anyone is applying for Fall? Did your status on myBC change yet?

I got a respond the same day but I email back within minutes from getting it.

Has anyone got their response from the email yet?

I emailed back instantly and have not received a response either.

Yes, I work through the program. I average 20.5 hrs/week working only Saturday and Sunday. On occasion, when time allows, I'll work a 5 hr shift on Thurs or Fri, and I work any days that we don't have class due to holidays. But, I worked 40 hours, and alot of overtime way before the program,so I accumulated a lot of paid vacation, which I've used to cut back on weeks that we have exams without losing hours.

I did take out a loan; mainly because I have financial obligations as well, and working any less than 20 hrs a week would put me behind. I wanted a bit of a cushion.

As far as loans, financial aid would be the best bet on accurate information on that. I know that you can file for an adjustment of financial aid status, and they will adjust it on a case by case basis.

If you're going to work you need to have phenomenal time management skills..and really be OK with zero life outside of school. It's hard..I spend my work breaks studying...I've recorded myself going over my notes so I can "study" in the car at all times. It's alot. I don't really think about anything else beyond school and taking care of myself so I can continue to think about school.

Hi Wannabenny

How was your school schedule please so i can have an idea.im planning on working sats and Sundays only.

Good morning all:

Please be patient with the responses. I have over 300 emails to respond to, along with my daily tasks in the office. Chances are I have received your email. Please do not email me multiple times.

Hi Wannabenny

How was your school schedule please so i can have an idea.im planning on working sats and Sundays only.

This was for North Campus

Monday: 8am-12pm (lecture)

5pm-8pm (pharmacology)

Tues: 7:30am-7:30pm (CAMPUS LAB)

Wed: 7:30am-7:30pm (CAMPUS LAB)

Thurs: 1pm-5pm (math)

Fri: 8am-12pm (lecture)

my personal time spent in the skills lab:

Mon: 12:30-3:30pm

Thurs: 8am-11:00am

Fri: 12:30pm-2:30pm or 12:30-4:30

the math course is 4 weeks. On the 4th week, once you pass your exam you will have that time free. Pharmacology is the full semester. You start out going to skills lab every 2 days for the first few weeks, you will drop down to 1 day spent in the hospital. So, you'll really be going to school 3 days, and then the rest of the time studying like there's no tomorrow. Really spend the time in the skills lab.

Hey everyone congrats on the acceptances! I'm in the central campus and you guys should feel proud to have been accepted. We started going to the hospital and the staff really do value broward college nursing students. It's hard work but nothing worth it comes easy. I feel confident that when I'm done with this program I will be a competent nurse. Just stay positive, read and when you get stressed remember you're not studying to pass the test. You study to prepare for the day when you are the only thing between the patient and the grave. [emoji6]

congrats everyone who was accepted!! alternates, don't give up just yet..there are some alternates in my class as well :)

wear respectable clothing for orientation. show up on time or the door will be locked. please hush and listen to what Nicole says during orientation and her response to questions....it will make orientation go by faster and you'll get the right information instead of wrong because you paid attention.

If you goto CEUFast.com - The Fastest, Easiest way to fulfill your Nursing Continuing Education Contact Hours online! and sign up, it's about $30.00 for a year, all of the certificates you'll need are on there; they were excepted at North Campus, not sure about the other campuses.

get ready for a roller coaster ride. I'm in love with the program, and the professors. My classmates and I spend about every waking moment studying, or practicing skills in the lab. This program is TOUGH. But the professors are amazing and want us to succeed. Come over-prepared to work your butt off, and be mentally & emotionally prepared to eat/sleep/breathe this program.

so far, we have gone through:

theory/clinical: 29 or so chapters out of Perry/Potter text book, 13 chapters in the clinical skills book

math: went through the entire book

pharmacology: 2 chapters of information

skills lab time: i spent about 8-10 hours a week in the lab.

it is ALOT of work, but it is doable if you don't get behind.

thank you for all the information!! On the ceufast website for the certificates what are the ones we need called on there? I was looking for them but I see different one and diff contact hours. I'm afraid ill do the wrong course.

I got my scrubs I couldn't resist the temptation and I another reason some sizes go faster than the other ones so I didn't want to take a chances lol
