Broward College Nursing Program August 2016

U.S.A. Florida

Updated:   Published

Hello!

I just wanted to make a thread for nursing program at BC for this coming Fall semester.

I passed the Hesi last week after 4 days of studying. (Got tired of studying the Elvesier book so I took my chances)

My overall score: 85%. My lowest score's reading: 78% ( English is my second language and I took this section last so didn't have enough time to really read the questions)

I turned in my application last Wednesday. The lady said to look for an email around May- June.

Anyone is applying for Fall? Did your status on myBC change yet?

Hi Ashley I am applying for the May semester and was wondering what chapters from fundamentals of nursing should I start reading to be ahead?? Also, do you recommend buying the books for process 1 and 2 or is renting acceptable? I'm trying to save where I can since I won't be working during the program and am saving everything I can right now while I'm still employed.

hey all! Im applying to BC's program in the fall (still have to take the HESI) & also applying to NOVA & Chamberlain! What other programs are you all applying to?

I only applied for BC. Nova is too expensive. I don't qualify for financial aids so trying to save as much as I can.

I got the book from valorebooks.com for $18 included shipping. Check it out before spending money on the new book.

Thank you @ashley1186 appreciate the advice. How are you liking it so far, besides the studying of course?

I'm liking it a lot. We went to the hospital today for the first time. It's very hectic but now that I'm done with math and return demo it's getting a little easier to study bc now I only have worry about pharm and my process 1 final. If you have any questions ask away.

Read vitals and health assessment to get started. Perry and potter, the clinical book, davis drug guide, cox, pagana, jarvis (you will use the a lot for return demo) rn notes (quick ref when you go to the hospital but you can wait on this until the end of process one) these are the ones you should buy. Go on amazon. Make sure you get the editions they want. These books you will use throughout. Perry and potter you don't use after process but you will want them as a reference if you need it. The others you use for your careplans. You need these bc the teachers will go back and check your rationale on the pages you listed so they have to be the edition they want. Also buy a careplan book and the fundamentals success book bc it has practice questions like the ones on the tests and I can tell you it helped alot. The pharm don't waste your money he only tests from the powerpoint. The math you don't use after you pass so I only rented it.

I went on craigslist for some of my books and amazon. Also get the jarvis asap and start practicing on friends and family. Also buy a cheap bp cuff and start practicing manual bp bc you can only be within 2 pts of the teacher or you fail that skill. Just a heads up.

Awesome thank you. I really appreciate it. Is it really true that you start with about 100 people and then people start dropping out?

Oh yes. After exam 2 a lot of people dropped. It's a different way of testing. So if you fail the first test and then you fail the second you have to drop bc there's no coming back from that. A lot people dropped bc of that. To pass is a 37/50. Which is a 74%. It's no longer one correct answer and the rest are wrong. It's they are all right but what is the most right in this scenario. All your questions are now scenarios.

I see how that can be difficult. Which Jarvis should I get? I want to get started on that. I rented Fundamentals of Nursing but am planning on purchasing the other books like the RN notes, drug guides, etc. Should I just purchase the fundamentals of nursing textbook? I rented it for $16 and can always purchase it when the class starts May if I change my mind.

P.S. You are being a big help!

I have it in the car right now but its the one in the bookstore so go there and get the isbn and then look it up on amazon or craigslist. It's the newest edition. It's purple.I started reading early on but I was reading the wrong chapters. Also read chapters 15 thru 20 bc that's nursing process.I would purchase the fundamentals book. Your welcome anytime. ?
