Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

She said that to m last week. Ugh . Someone I go to class with either applied today or yesterday.....I cannot remember when exactly but I thought they had closed the pool of applicants. I'm glad she's getting in but why are they still accepting people??

Maybe they still have seats open??? But hopefully we'll hear something by at least next week Wednesday. I can't take it anymore :roflmao: I'm going crazy!

If we don't find out by Friday I'm gonna do some reading. ..some tanning ....a little more reading. ...some more tanning  and relaxing! Gotta take my mind off of it! :)

Hello everyone! I've been following this forum for a while; finally I've made an account! This wait is unbearable for me, especially since I submitted my application since November. Unfortunately, I missed the January cut off date. I looked through May 2014's forum and they didn't hear from admissions until March 27! So I guess we have one more week! :nailbiting:

Apparently there was an informational session for those considering a nursing profession today at North Campus, I missed it. But there is another one tomorrow. Here is the posting if anyone is interested: College Central Network®

Anyways, I hope we all make it! Good luck everyone!!

Hii guys!!!

I've been following this thread for a while now and you guys have been my support without you even knowing it. Any questions I ever had about the program I just came on here, read through the thread and somebody has already answered all my questions. So I finally decided to say hello. :)

I applied for the May program in January and I swear this has been the longest wait EVER!!! :banghead: I'm so anxious and just ready to know what's going on already.

I hope by next week we'll hear the good news and can finally start this journey.

I volunteer at a hospital in the nurses station 1-2 days a week. I really love it. I thought it was important for me to see what it's really like before I dedicate myself to this. My current work is not in the medical/health field, so it makes sense to me to volunteer- I really love it :) Where I volunteer requires at least a 6 month commitment, so not sure if this is okay with you, but at least now you know.

@ Lodonfog I have the same concern, and I'm in the same boat. I think there are opportunities for RN's with no prior experience in the med field as well. Meanwhile I've been trying to obtain jobs, and volunteer/internship opportunity in the hospital and nursing homes. .. Does anyone have any advice ? :-\

Thanks HammockBound- That's really good to hear. I always wondered where the BC grads went. I know the training is amazing at BC, and I'm sure they have an upper hand compared to other local programs (no offense to them). I agree- attitude can either open doors or shut them. Thank you :)

When you go to clinicals you will see a lot of new BC grads. You realize many students get hired. But it had a lot to do with your attitude at clinicals as well I think. They watch you.

Well, technically I don't think they can say 'no more' as there is no official cut off date. A classmate of mine was told Monday (03/16) was going to be the last day, but obviously not. I think until they have officially notified us, they can't turn away. They don't know how many candidates they have until we accept right? I'm sure that increases competition in the candidate pool also.

dolfajenny- The story about your friend is impressive and disappointing at the same time. It's a shame she went through all that to end up right where she was. It's reassuring for me though- don't have any clinical skills at all, so at least I feel there's some hope :) I am certainly not picky or glamorous! I do believe in hard work and absolutely have to prove yourself first. That itself is such a lesson. :) Thank you

No prob London. Listen I know someone who's been in the medical field working for an eye doctor for years! She went back to school got her degree became an RN. I know what your thinking "oh she's already in the medical field". No not really. She had no idea how to draw blood, do an EKG or even wound care! She learned through clinicals. She went on job interviews and was offered positions but she was also extremely picky! She didn't have the years of experience they were looking for but they still were giving her chance. Problem was is that she wanted the "nice schedule" with "the big money" that only comes after you've proven yourself to your employer. Now she's back working at the eye doctors office letting her degree go to waste. Moral of the story is opportunities will be available you just have to know when to take advantage of the opportunities that are given to u. There are places that hire fresh out of school nurses. They might not be glamorous but get the 1-2 years u need and move on.

dolfanjenny- reading Perry & Potter doesn't count as relaxing! :) And if you keep tanning like that - you'll be as dark as me! :) :) :)

Hey guys hope the wait isn't too painful for you. Just to give you a little more hope, if you are able to meet minimal requirements to apply and your paperwork is correct then you will get in. There maybe people "wait-listed" I don't know the exact term they use but some people will choose to defer to another term so even if "wait-listed" usually everyone who wants to start usually is able to start.

But I was going through my email and it jogged my memory last year our status changed to "Preadmission" on March 27th for some and on March 28th for others. On the 28th they sent us this email basically setting us up for the pre-admission meeting where we got forms for background checks, finger printing, physicals, vaccinations/titers and they explain registration and bucnch of other stuff. Good luck and relax if you are at this point you are probably in (Then the fun starts)
