Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
Hello, my name is Janelle, and I've found this thread veryyyy interesting, and helpful as most of you have answered all of the questions I had. Here's a little background hx on me as a nursing major. I have completed most of my prerequisites/sciences, only missing Chm and Micro. Back in April 2013, I enrolled in an Practical Nursing program at Lindsey Hopkins Tech, which is similar to program Sheridan offers as it is run by Miami Dade school system. I have failed twice due to an illness, I suffer from, and fortunately I am much better after removal of my spleen , and I figure if I am going to spend any more time, I rather be in an RN program. I feel and know that I am more than ready, considering I had reached and passed Med/Surg 2 successfully in the PN program, but failed due to insufficient hours. So here is the problem. Back when I graduated HS, I enrolled in BC and began taking classes towards my nursing degree, some in which I completed successfully, or was force to withdraw due to my illness. My biggest fear now is not getting accepted into BC's nursing program due to excessive withdrawals from my prerequisite/science courses. I don't see anything in reference to this in writing, but I did a while ago which is why I choose the LPN program as a jumpstart initially. I visited both South and Central campus today, but admissions/advisors were not in because of ''Professional Development Day", so I have to wait until Monday…. With supporting documentation about my illness while taking my prerequisite/science courses do any of you think I have a chance? By the way my prerequisite GPA is 3.3 and Science GPA is 2.6. I am hoping to get in the May or August class. I've taken Hesi practice test and so far I've scored great! I have found myself to be very depressed and worried due to my failures. Any information and advice will help :) thank you!
Hi Ya'll! My name is Chrissy and I am completely brand new at this.. I am reading all of these comments and it is so helpful seeing everyone's input. I currently have my BA in psychology and decided to do a complete career change. Unfortunately my science prereq GPA isn't that good...(2.6-2.8) and was wondering if having my bachelors will hurt or help me? I plan on applying for the Aug 2015 and my head is spinning with stress and confusion!
Welcome Janelle and Chrissy! First off let me say Janelle I'm glad u have gotten all your health issues worked out and I'm glad it hasn't derailed you from wanting to become a nurse! Second I don't know if you have to worry too much about GPA as long as u meet requirements. Hope Janelle when u go to speak with an advisor next week that they are understanding and give u some good news! Keep us posted!

Thank you!! I will be meeting with an advisor first thing Monday morning, and will be sure to give you all an update :) the first time in a long time, that I've looked forward to a Monday lol.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It's nice to finally hear that it's doable from some people now. I guess it's what you make of it. I kept hearing it was hell and it's really nerve wrecking when you're so close to getting in (hopefully). All the horror stories are always about people failing, retracking, etc. It's really optimistic to hear another side. Best of luck with the remainder of the program HammockBound. Thanks again :)
I think the program is great. I can't believe how during process 1&2 they expect so much of you and you feel totally lost. But it is so good that they do that because now I feel like I've learned so much. They really prepare you. It's very doable and you come out very prepared. You just get out what you put in.
Hey dolfanjenny- we all know the dog understood more, but you just don't want to say it! :) Either way they will both be talking about you behind your back and rolling their eyes each time you mention the word 'test'! :) Have a great weekend.
Thanks for sharing Hammockbound! So glad to hear positive things about the program. I can't wait to start! I'm putting 110% effort into this program with zero distractions. (Except for my boyfriend and dog) but I explained to both of them that I will be very busy and consumed in my studies. They are very supportive (though I don't know if my dog understood too much she just kind of stood there wagging her tail with her tongue sticking out) lol
Welcome Janelle, One word came to mind whilst reading your post- DETERMINATION. Anyone would be lucky to have you enroll in the nursing program. I hope you are well now and remain healthy. Regarding your worries - I honestly don't know how they treat W on record or if they even look at it at all. At the end of the day- you have completed your prerequisites and exceed the GPA and HESI grade requirement. Withdrawals in any program due to health should not even be regarded. Your bumpy road just shows even more determination than the next person- I actually think your at a better position than others who haven't had that many obstacles to go through. I believe it shows your strength of character. Think positive and good things will happen. I personally would speak to Nicole about it in Health Admissions and possibly try to make an appointment with Suzette Jean-Louis (senior health sciences specialist) to explain your personal circumstances if it really bothers you. At least then you will know you have done your 101% for this. Best of luck :)

Hi cafeconchrissy- love the name btw!:) welcome
I can't imagine a degree hurting your chances of being accepted. Have you taken the HESI? How did it go? I have read on previous BC threads that people with 2.5 GPA have gotten into the program. That is their requirement and you meet that, so I wouldn't stress over it. Won't do you any good anyway. I do think you have a better chance of the May term than the August because I have heard that there are less entrants for May due to the short term. If less people are applying, they will have to take you to fulfill their seats. Just my opinion though, nothing concrete. Think positive. Good luck :)

HammockBound-thanks so much for all your input! What have you found is the best way to study? Are you in a study group? Study on your own?
