Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

Specializes in Cardiac/Telemetry/Covid19.

Thank you very much. I will look into purchasing them over the next couple of weeks. I think I will print off the syllabus Nelly gave us and try to fit in some reading time. Ahhhh......leisure!

I'm getting Micro out of the way also Acitrone- it will be nice to relax a little in the middle :)

Ok here we go:

Londonfog yes I also bought the study guide and a critical thinking book I would have to look at it when I get home to tell u exact name.

Acitrone2011 good idea to get micro out of the way u don't want to deal with it later!

Nelly thx for all the info. I understand your schedule completely hope I get that lucky! ;)

The other book is clinical nursing skills & techniques and I also bought the math dosages one as well. Bought them off amazon got some decent prices on them.

I swear I don't know WHAT I would have done without ALL of you! Getting a little insight on the program eases my mind a lot! & now I have the reading list! Omg thank you Nelly. & Nelly I'm so glad to hear about the Math being easier for you! I'm doing conversions in chemistry currently and I think I'm getting the hang of it..? Glad to hear also they let you use calculators and clarity on exactly HOW to do the problems! Wooo!!!

And you ladies are right about the GPA, it's all about determination, positivity, and willingness. I'm sure you have to WANT THIS!! Like we all do :)

Can't wait till we all have RN after our names ;)

You ladies better stay in touch once your in ;) lol!!

Hey Nelly is it wise to brush up on a&p before starting the program?

Hey, love how I was away for a couple of days and bam! GREAT CONVERSATIONS HERE! lol

I am trying not to make myself more anxious by looking at this thread or checking my limited application status everyday :S

Anyway, I am trying to figure out exactly what I am going to do for work while in nursing school. I currently work part time at Publix, and although it is a good job, it usually involves long and weird hours (especially my store, because they make us level every night so we don't get out till 12-12:30 midnight), and I am highly considering babysitting, so I made myself a care.com profile and hopefully I find something.

My question for you is, do you know if you will have clinicals on the weekends? That is what is stressing me out right now because I cannot just quit my job, I have to either keep it or replace it with babysitting because I need to start paying down these loans, as well as pay off my car, car insurance, phone, food, gas etc. I don't want to commit to a family long term and tell them I can work all weekends because I would feel terrible telling them they need to find someone else ASAP.

What is everyone else doing for work? I know compared to others I might have it easier....I don't pay rent and I don't have kids. BUT, I already have about 10k accrued in student loans, and I really don't want to take more than what I need. I have minimal financial aid, and I do have a scholarship, which won't pay for the summer term classes (bright futures).

So yeah.....what are your plans for work my peeps?

I believe clinicals are Tuesday or Wednesday or both from what I heard. I work full time at a eye doctor and they're letting me work one day a week once I start. I also have a part time work from home job doing data entry for another doctor but Im debating if I should keep it or not. I hope you find something that works out for you!

Hey giggles! I know what you mean. I currently work full-time Mon-Friday 9-5 at a doctors office for almost 10 years so obviously I won't be able to keep my job but my bills are not going to stop. I'm actually saving up money to pay my bills to get me through the whole first semester and an extra month. I'm not going to work the first semester but after that I'm looking to get a part-time weekend job. I also have my 401k which I'm rolling into an IRA. I hopefully won't need to touch that at all but it is my safety net should I need it. I'm trying to apply for scholarships any one i can possibly apply for cause I know right now I won't be getting financial aid. Fingers crossed :)

ergh.

this is very stressful. I hope you guys can find something. I definitely do not want to risk failing nursing school. I too think I will stop working for the first semester, just because the May term is so fast paced and I want to get a feel of what my studying patterns will be like. The last thing I want to do is have EXTRA time to do nothing, it will just ignite my laziness lol. I have to keep busy. I didn't think about taking a break from work but now I am considering.

I'm not sure about nursing scholarships but I have seen on other threads people say that they went to campus financial aid office and they have certain scholarships for those entering the nursing program I'm hoping to be able to apply for one of those. Of course we have to wait till we get accepted first :cheeky:

As far as deciding what to do about working everyone has to do what's right for them. I decided to not work first semester cause like u said fast paced because of it being summer term and I don't want to end up failing cause I'm stressed out between work and school. Once i get through the first semester I think I'll feel more comfortable with the program and the pace of everything and then I can start working again.
