Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

Not sure if they are using the lab yet at central but I do know the simulation center is up and running, and just so you know.. I go to north and we use central campus' sim center too ;) Students from every campus use it I believe, for every class. (I'm not 100% on south.. someone correct me if I'm wrong) I'm going tomorrow actually for Peds.

Wow that's awesome :) and dridri I just like the atmosphere at central. I feel like I can be there all day and like it lol

Thank you for the info! How do you like north? What hospitals do you go to? Sorry if you answered that before

The simulation lab is being used on central campus. Like all things new, it is a work in progress as the faculty is learning to use the tool properly. My cohort is using simulation for end-of life course.

So, I looked at a few supplies over the weekend and I thought I would give you a run down of the prices and sales advice I got. BTW I haven't bought any of it yet.

Shoes- Dansko, Klogs, and Nurse Mate. Nurse Mate were really good. around $70+ I also liked Klogs ~$60 they also had specific insoles for them at $10. The nurses I spoke to told me to buy pressure hose/socks also. I have seen a lot of nurses wear Dansko, but I really didn't feel comfortable in them, but they are around $110+

Also, looked at scrubs and found out that Wal Mart sells the bottoms for ~$12+ in royal blue of course.

Stethoscope price varied, but I found the cheapest ones on eBay for better brands otw the bookstore has them for $18.

The staff at the shop were very helpful and said that most nurses do use insoles and many purchase the Klogs. (Though, I have not seen them.) They also said anyone in the nursing program (or just accepted) gets a 10% discount.

I just went to the uniform shop in Pembroke Lakes Mall, but I'm sure there are better ones around. I was there anyway and thought I would pop in for a peek. It was very exciting to be looking at all the things we may need with purpose rather than just daydreaming.

Look forward to meeting/seeing you all on Friday :)

dolfanjenny - You are one optimistic lady! I hope whatever you have is infectious :)

Londonfog thanks for sharing that! Now I have an idea of what to expect!

Hey guys, stopped by north campus bookstore today to check out how much the scrub top would be especially since we can purchase bottoms anywhere. It's 24.99 with no refunds and there's no fitting room anymore -_- but we are welcome to open them and see how they run. Also I've been looking up the fundamentals of nursing book and I found it on valore books.com for around 90 bucks brand new. A lot cheaper used. I've used this site religiously with my other courses so it works great. Just thought I'd share a bit with you all. Can't wait to meet you guys Friday at 9am. I'm so anxious/excited :)

Yessss!!!!! Dolfanjenny you're so right!!!

I wish I was that positive all the time

Central had a fitting room (closet. ..lol) when I went to try on pants.
