Hi! I know it's pretty early to start a thread for fall but I just wanted to see somewhat of what other people have in their classes and HESI. I have to retake the anatomy portion of the test but everything else I passed, and I have a GPA of 3.18. Also, I was in another nursing program before this and didn't do so well because of what was going on in my life during that time. Do you think this will be a big issue regarding getting in??
Why is it that some students got in with 8 points, while others with the same 8 points were chosen as alternates?
Probably because the program admits a certain number of students and they reached that number at some point in the middle of the group with 8 points. Then they pick a certain number of students as alternates...so they continue down the list where they left off.

I think it's because the hesi was the tie breaker. So the 8 point students with the highest hesi scores may have got in. Not sure though, but I heard from someone that's how the hesi scores come in.

No HESI was not the tie breaker. Overall GPA was. There were more applicants with 8 points than we had seats for.

EDIT: Thanks for the explanation. Do you know why the Nursing department changed the "retake for a higher grade" policy? What are the implications for the program going forward?

The FIRST passing grade received in the admissions criteria classes will be used. Retakes are not allowed to boost your GPA.
It's been in talks for a year. What we were finding is the attrition (failures/drop outs) rate was rising and the majority of those students are the ones who went and retook classes to boost their GPA to gain admission. So we removed the option. In a few semesters we will review again, like we do every year to see if changes need to be made.

The criteria doesn't change, the grades of the applicants influences the admission. The more applicants with higher grades, the higher the bar is set for that admission. It could change for next enrollment.

We will go over that at pre-admissions. Just remember nothing really changes on its own in the system lol. Someone always has to go in and manually change it.
