Hi guys!! Haven't seen any threads for May 2018 so I figured why not start one!! I just submitted my application for Broward's May 2018 LPN-RN program so anxiously waiting for the deadline. While I wait I'm attending Keiser to retake A&P 1 and lab to boost grade up! What's everyone doing to pass the time?
Cool thanks, do you mind sharing which class you retracted in? Also what do you think you could have done differently to not be in the same position the next go around?
Read this question. Think about it before reading on. Answer is at the end of the comment.
"A deaf person comes to your shop, how would he show you he wants to purchase sunglasses? Now a blind person comes in. How would he let you know he wants to buy sunglasses?"
I retracted from process 1 and clinical. After return demo we were seen talking to students and they assumed we were discussing about the exam which resulted in an automatic failure for clinical. Since it happened before the drop date, I took advantage of that. When you drop clinical you have to drop theory as well.
I'm happy to retract because I was not as focused as I know I could be. Dealing with a divorce, dealing with my daughter being gone so I can focus on nursing school. Dealing with family members new to the country and helping them get settled. Financial issues. Trying to go to the gym, eat healthy, get 8 hrs of sleep.
I took a vacation for Christmas, after i found out that i was accepted. I was listening to those who were saying go on vacation, relax, you'll be too busy in nursing school to do any of that. Well, that was not advice that benefited me. I advise that before you get accepted do your relaxation. They take about 30 days to send out the acceptance letters. So relaxing will take your mind off the unnecessary pressure you are starting to build up before even having any real pressure. That is using up your energy that you'll need.
They changed a lot of how they do things this semester, and I didn't know anyone who could guide me prior to starting classes, this is why I'm taking my time to help in any way myself. With that being said, the minute you find out that your accepted go get your titers done, if you believe you'll get accepted go get them done now. I will post the documents on the FB group. (If you have 12 points you're more likely in. I had 13. I heard of a few who had 9 and got in.)
After you've gotten accepted there's going to be a series of emails on how to do things and when to get them done. Start preparing your money now for when you get accepted. I don't recall the exact price, they're in my documents, but after the first orientation you'll have to pay for a program called COMPLIO this is where you have to upload your documents for the hospital. That was less than $200. You have to get your CEU courses done, (you can start getting those done now as well) (more detail will be provided) for the CEUs you're looking at about $135 or less depending on where you get your BLS card. At broward it's $100.
To answer your question about what I'd do different... Be more prepared, more focused, read ahead because it's easy to fall behind. Our first exam was after 2 weeks and on 11 long chapters. (More details later)
Guys it's not hard, it's just overwhelmingly a lot of information and putting your knowledge to practice. You have to know why for a lot of information. The best way I can tell you testing goes is something like this...
A deaf person comes to your shop, how would he show you he wants to purchase sunglasses? He'd motion his hands as if putting on sunglasses, signaling that he wants to buy sunglasses. You understood very well. Now a blind person comes in. How would he let you know he wants to buy sunglasses? He is only blind, he can speak to tell you that he wants them. The questions are straight forward and uses critical thinking. They are not tricky you just shouldn't read more into it. Some of you, I'm sure was already thinking, well why do a blind person need glasses. Or they don't need it he's blind. But that's not what the question asked.
Hope all of this help. Sorry for so much to read.

Thanks very informative. As for as the titers what if you have had that done in 2016? Is it still required to get it done?

I turned my application in on February 6th. I was worried that they missed it so I emailed the health. Science department and they fixed my limited access page, but my application is still in progress. My fafsa is in but I have to write an appeal to get financial aid so it will probably take a bit longer. Im just hoping it comes before term starts. Texas will be fun. Get away now because we will be locked down for the next 2 years.
