Broward college May 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)

how do you figure out how many points you will have by your grades, and does the hesi test scores count for anything? I'm getting super nervous now...lol.

@ Joeane - I've heard all kinds of things. Someone told me north was the best as far as professors, but someone told me that the professor everyone was referring to was teaching nursing process I and she is no longer there. I have a friend at south since august and she has not told me anything negative about her experience. Someone else told me Central was the best so I'm at a loss trying to figure it out. Central is closer to me than North, but if South was admitting in May that would have been my choice since I'm in Miramar. I was undecided for awhile about whether I should just wait and apply for august at South.

@ 2baG8nurse- Don't be too nervous about vocabulary, I was because people I consider really bright told me that they failed that section, but when I did it was not that bad. Even if you get words you may not know, they will be in a sentence which will help you decipher the meaning. The review book does not really help here. Good Luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

@lovelyb09- points are determined using your gpa(max 16) 4.0 = 16pts, 3.9 = 15pts, 3.8 = 14pts, 3.7 = 13pts, 3.6 = 12pts, 3.5 = 11pts, 3.4 = 10pts, 3.3 = 9pts, 3.2 = 8pts, 3.1 = 7pts, 3.0 = 6pts, broward residency (1), HOSA (5)

I hope 7 points is enough! I guess I will see when the emails come out - I wonder if alot of people apply for the May program since it's in the summer and it's faster?

I'm really happy to hear that 2 campuses are accepting this year for the summer because it could only increase all of our chances of being accepted! As far as which campus is better... Just like SugarBianca said... Everyone has their own opinion about their own experience. I have heard and read all types of reviews, good and bad, about every campus. A lot of people seem to think that North is the better campus, but who really knows. North happens to be the closest to me so that's where I hope to go if accepted. The least amount of time I am wasting on the road the better. Lord knows we are all going to need all the time we can get to study hard. I'm so excited yet SO nervous, but I am definitely going to give it my best and look forward to starting a new career! :redbeathe :nurse:

I wonder the same thing about the May term since it is extremely intense due to the term being shorter. I've been told by previous applicants that there is always a good amount of people who defer their seats until August. I just really want to start in the summer so I can get started and get it over with as soon as possible.

I did not know that the may term is shorter. Thats Good news, How many months will it take? Most people that i know will be applying for January and August instead of May or will be differing their seats because they thought May was only for LPN - RN, also because they need more time to figure out their finances and because of the limited campus availability. Hopefully we will get in fingers cross!

Thank u so much! I will let you know how I did. Base on the points determining factor it looks as if i will have 12 pts [3.57] gpa. fingers cross!

I had to search all over this site to get this, I'd seen it a long time ago and the search option here does not help much, anyway this is an idea the semester break down for each start period, it may vary slightly for each campus:

If you start in January:

JAN-MAR 2012: Nursing Process 1(8 weeks)

MAR-MAY 2012: Nursing Process 2(8 weeks)

MAY-JUN 2012: GI/GU

JUN-AUG 2012: OFF

AUG-OCT 2012: Specialty 1 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

OCT-DEC 2012: Specialty 2 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

JAN-MAR 2013: Specialty 3 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

MAR-MAY 2013: Ortho/Neuro

MAY-JUN 2013: Cardio

JUN-AUG 2013: Trends (and then you are DONE!)

Graduate: Aug 2013

If you start in May:

MAY-JUN 2012 :Nursing Process 1

JUN-AUG 2012 : Nursing Process 2

AUG-OCT 2012 : GI/GU

OCT-DEC 2012 : Specialty 1 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

JAN-MAR 2013 : Specialty 2 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

MAR-MAY 2013 : Specialty 3 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

MAY-JUN 2013 : OFF

JUN-AUG 2013 : Ortho/Neuro

AUG-OCT 2013 : Cardio

OCT-DEC 2013 : Trends (and then you are done!)

Graduation : Dec 2013

If you start in August:

AUG-OCT 2012: Nursing Process 1

OCT-DEC 2012: Nursing Process 2

JAN-MAR 2013: GI/GU

MAR-MAY 2013: Specialty 1 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

MAY-JUN 2013: Specialty 2 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

JUN-AUG 2013: OFF

AUG-OCT 2013: Specialty 3 (Peds, OB, or Psych)

OCT-DEC 2013: Ortho/Neuro

JAN-MAR 2014: Cardio

MAR-MAY 2014: Trends (and then you are DONE!)

Graduate: May 2014

Also you have to take Pharmacology(first 16 weeks) and Maths(first 4 weeks) in the first semester. For May start since it's summer session you have to cover the material is 6 weeks as opposed to 8 weeks for August and January start.

That's a great semester breakdown that you founds SugarBianca! I know that no matter what semester we get accepted to or what campus we attend it's going to be challenging road for all of us, but it's totally do-able!!! :)

Hey everyone! I am also applying for the program. I submitted my application, but I am waiting for them to review my transcripts from my previous school. Thanks for posting the points system! I am taking the HCP class at Sheridan right now, and will be able to submit my certificates by January 13.

I heard from one of the students that they were only offering the program at the North campus in May 2012. Someone mentioned above that the Central campus was too, so I am confused now.

Good luck everyone!

@ s.marie - It changes every year, but this year it's at North and Central. http://www.broward.edu/healthsciences/Supporting%20Content/Pre%20Requisite%20Requirements.pdf

I'm so glad that it was clarified where nursing would be taught at this summer! I looked and looked and I was given different answers everytime I called the health science department.
