Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend celebrating your acceptance!! :) Just wanted to say that I just got an email about more details on the pre-admission meeting so if you replied to the first email on Friday and don't get another email back today, you should confirm that they got your first email and that it didn't get lost in cyber space![/quote']

Thanks for the update. I didn't receive any email so I emailed to double check they got my reply.

Got an email too! I knew I sent mine back but I was nervous all the same. >.>

I got my reply email at 9 this morning, so I understand what you mean!

I am not sure if you guys know about this, but if you meet the requirements then they will help you pay for most of the ADN program at BC! There are a few hoops you have to jump through, so I highly recommend that you start now. I am doing the online Orientation as we speak, and hope to secure an appointment soon. Good luck guys and see you in April!

Just an FYI this is for unemployed individuals/dislocated workers. It is not for people that leave their job voluntarily. There must be low demand in the field in which you are certified to do, you mist bring job contacts from the past 2 weeks to your orientation. They give you $8000, and there are many many requirements you must meet. You must be actively searching for a job and apply to at least 2 jobs per week to receive the money. You have required meetings, there is a 2 hour orientation after which they determine if you meet eligibility or not. To me I'd rather take out financial aid. I am giving you this info from experience as I did the online orientation and went to the orientation back in August.

Really? That stinks, I thought it was open to all students pursuing the in demand degrees who aren't working. Oh well, maybe someone else will benefit I hope.

Anyone doing there HSC courses through BC? If not where are you doing CPR? I'm doing the other four courses through BC, trying to find CPR cheaper. If not I'm taking CPR on March 24 if anyone wants to join me.

I took mine already at BC, the instructor was awesome.

I already took the HSC classes, except for CPR. Mines scheduled for March 24 at Tigertail Lake campus. It's also a recreational center so I thought that was a bonus. If you want check American Red Cross, they have a slight cheaper price I think. Otherwise maybe I'll see you at Tigertail! :)

Nice..Where did you take it at?

Just make sure it is American Heart Association CPR

E_Sarita- I do believe BC only uses AHA. I don't think they accept Red Cross for the Health Science Students. While it may seem like they may save a few bucks, it will probably cost more if they have to redo it. Also, I know that a recertification class may be 4 hours, but the HSC0405 is an 8 hour class.

Just throwing out some info.
