  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

@ Juliansmom2011, Can you post the link to the PDF Q&A sheet you're referring to?

I took a look at the other admission criteria, and it stated what you mentioned above. Oh well, just got to study; and hope for the best at the first try. Also, what is an SLS course? Do we need to complete this course before we apply to the program or before the we begin the program?

I just spoke with an advisement counselor, and she stated they have yet to decide what SLS (Student Life Skills) course they want students to complete, so until they decide we don't have to take the SLS course.

@ Juliansmom2011 I agree ^^^^. That 6 month wait period is what's getting to me. Praying for a great outcome the 1st time around, for us ALL.

@ Yankeesgirl907 In winter 2013 I am taking Micro with the lab (same instructor for both classes on the same day), MAC1105, REL2300, DEP2004 (all online), and HCP0001 @ BC (highly thinking about dropping this course and taking it at Sheridan Tech).

CHM1032 is no longer a required pre-req, but you do have to take this course before you take Micro (might as well have been kept as a required pre-req, if you ask me, LOL). You have the option of doing Micro in the summer or after you complete the program, which you may already know is highly recommended to do before starting the program. Now for the HESI exam I brought the study guide from BC and I also purchased a study guide from www.readyforthehesi.com, the makers of the exam.

@ Yankeesgirl907, My earlier statement about the options to complete Micro with the lab is no longer true. Micro with the lab is now a required pre-req, along with a college level math, or higher (ie statistics).

I just spoke with an advisement counselor, and she stated they have yet to decide what SLS (Student Life Skills) course they want students to complete, so until they decide we don't have to take the SLS course.
Thanks for the charity.

You're welcome!

I was wondering what the competitive GPA and HESI scores are for admission specifically for the Aug 2013 semester. If anyone feels comfortable, or if anyone that is currently enrolled would list their scores I'm curious. Thanks!

It really depends on the committee as to what they deem is competitive. As for us, we just have to aim as high as we can. One may have a 3.5 with a hesi score of 98% and the other a 3.6 GPA with a 92% hesi score; for us we would say the 3.6 GPA is more competitive then the 3.5, but truth is it depends on the committee, which is unpredictable for us. All I can tell you (and us) is aim above the minimum standard.

Hello Everyone! I am also going for the August 13 program! It has been so hectic with all these changes! I am all finished with all my pre-reqs and Hesi.. I am just concerned about the Hesi changes because I have taken it twice just not with 6 months in between. Also I'm trying to retake BSC2086/L over again but BC wont let me since I have passed it already?!?!?!?! Wondering if anyone knew a way around that..

Good luck to us all!! :specs:

Hello Kitty_, Congratulations on finishing all your pre-req's and the HESI! :up:Unfortunately if you've already passed BSC2086/L with a "C" or higher, they will not allow you to retake it, so there's no way around that, sorry . Now with the HESI exam, it's best you speak with an advisor, (speak with an advisor that's familiar with the nursing program and all it's requirement), about the new changes possibly affecting you, hopefully you're fine though.

Best of luck!!!!

Thank you! I'll def go speak to an adviser that's in the nursing department about the HESI...Seems like your right about retaking the course! Spoke to an adviser who said there's nothing I can do about it...Sucks ughh! :dead:
