  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

Hello,

Those of you who are already in the Broward College Nursing Program it would be greatly appreciated if you could reply. :-) I am in a predicament where know nursing student ever wants to be!! I went through nursing school at Herzing University in Orlando, FL. It's a private institution and very expensive! Anyone else who is reading this I recommend that you DO NOT attend this program!! I made A's and B's throughout the program and because they have a nursing school exit exam that I didn't pass. I wasn't authorized to go and take the NCLEX-RN. So, basically my only option was to go through nursing school all over again. Not to mention the fact that they have a high instructor turnover rate and the instructors do not teach you besides my OB/Peds professor who was very good. Anyways, I just wanted to get an idea on how the actual Broward College LPN to RN transition program is. Are the instructors helpful in any way shape or form?? Is there an exit exam that you have take?? How are the clinicals?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! At this point in the game I am doing a lot of research on nursing schools before I attend another one!! I hate the fact that I was so incredibly close to actually becoming a registered nurse and it was all taken away from me in an instant!! :dead: It's really frustrating to find out at the end of the program that this is happening to students!! I wish someone would have told me from the get go that this could possibly happen! I would have never gone to Herzing in the first place! All they want is your money!! Anyways, I am sorry for the ranting its just really heart breaking to be so close... The main reason why I am posting this is because I have read a couple negative comments from other people about Broward College Nursing which really worries me especially after what I have been through.

BC is tough. I'm in the LPN to RN program. The only difference is that we do less hours than generic. Are you an LPN? That's the only way you can apply to this specific transition program. This school boasts a 99% NCLEX pass rate so if you graduate this program you SHOULD pass. My mother was also in this program way back when. Their standards are very high, but what comes out of this school are amazing nurses!

I am literally in the process of taking my PN boards.. I should receive my ATT this week! I know nursing school is tough!! Trust me when I was at Herzing I didn't have a life what so ever!! I don't think nursing school should be easy by any means! I just want to make sure that I don't go to a school to where the instructors literally fail you for every lil insurmountable thing possible! I have read a couple negative comments about the Demo's.. I am worried because I currently don't have any true floor nurse experience besides practicum and clinicals which its sad to say I didn't have a very good preceptor for my practicum either.. Trust me, I am the type of person that will study a lot but, I don't want to be getting only 3-4 hours of sleep every single night because I will get exhausted and burnt out really easily.. Also, I am not too worried about the NCLEX at this point either because I have literally practiced over 5,000 application and analysis questions which are the highest level of questions in nursing.. I have done everything possible from the Hurst Review, Pearson, and Kaplan to study for the NCLEX.. By the time I finish LPN to RN transition school and start heavily studying for the NCLEX-RN again I should pass with flying colors! Anyways, I am not trying to sound snotty or be rude by any means.. If I came across that way I apologize! I am just kinda upset about my situation currently.. I just want to really get an idea for how Broward College Nursing is before I apply and I feel like the best way to do that is to get an actual nursing students opinion because you are the one that's sitting in the hot seat every day.. Thanks!!:)

I understand. I'd be furious too. Well, take your PN exam and when you pass, apply. You'll be going to South though. My bf is at South and had to retrack. He failed by ONE point. I'm starting Psych tomorrow and it's by no means a walk in the park. I'm stressed, lose sleep, and still pull Cs. Like I mentioned previously, this school is tough but you'll come out as a competent, confident RN. :)

Butterfly, I love reading your posts...When I feel a little discouraged, I remind myself of what you say...that even though "the school is tough, I will come out as a competent, confident RN." The first 8 weeks were so overwhelming for me, and felt like a fish out of water, as I am not a LPN or have had any previous healthcare experience. I have come to realize that "The C is the new A." I take each and every C and run with it. Anyways, you have always been so gracious in responding to me & to others, and I just wanted to say...Thank You!!!

Tennis, I am sorry for what you have been through...but I totally agree with what Butterfly says about the program....I have only been around for a short time, but I have already learned so much. I am in the generic RN program, and the program is tough, yet doable. I also heard all the horror stories, was scared out of my mind the first week, but I actually do not find it THAT bad!!! I just study, study, and study some more!!! Hope everything works out for you... Good luck :)

Aww. Thank you dying2bRN. I'm sorry it was rough for you, but don't you feel a little more confident than you were BEFORE the program? Even though I'm an LPN I was VERY skittish around patients and giving meds. Last clinical rotation I went from skittish mouse to a very initiative and confident nurse and patient advocate. It's fun coming up with new and different ways to assist patients. :)

Butterfly,,, yes, every week I feel a little more confident. What's funny is that I have no problem being at the hospitals & helping the patients with w/e their needs are...What stresses me the most is being around just 1 certain professor...I'll just leave it at that!!! lol I will just stay focused & take 1 week at a time...I have a loooong road ahead as I hope to one day become a nurse anesthetist...Time will tell. I am looking forward to next semester & Psy. Have you done that yet???

No. It's only the first day of every beginning of the semester. :)

Oh okay. Thanks.

Oh okay. Thanks.

If you want, you can google "Broward College Math dosage calculations practice" in Google and there's a website from North campus with practice questions that you can download, from every semester. From Process to Cardio I believe. :)
