Broward College August 2013

  1. Do you think Broward College Pre's should have change or stayed the same?

      I like the credit change.
    • The preq's should have stayed the same.
    • I think it's great because it helps more students to become prepared for the nursing program.
    • This is just a setup for more students to fail and for the school to get more money out of us.
    • Doesn't matter

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.

We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?

I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab

Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.

Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.

** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....

how do you know this? are you in the nursing program?

because I just asked this question on the facebook broward college page, and they said, all health career students are required health insurance

You asked a question, I answered it. Seems to me you've already had your answer.

I am NOT in the nursing program however, like you I have questions as well. Upon getting my HCP wavier, I asked if insurance is required for nursing students, the young lady, whom I can't name stated, "nursing students are NOT required to have health insurance".

Hope this answers your question.

never trust just one person

i need real proof like a page or paper that says you don't requite it, i have been looking everywhere on the broward website, no mention if health insurance is required or not, nothing .. why would the people from the facebook page say the opposite?

Well the best answer to your question would be for you to personally go to BC's campus and get the info you're seeking. That's the only way to be 100% sure you're receiving accurate info.

can someone help me here, could someone tell me what else do I need to do to apply for the program?

I have already completed all the pre-requisites, including microbiology and lab, and in the fall I will be taking

-HCP0001 health core

-HCP0591 HIV

-HCP0533 tb/osha

-HSC0405 CPR

-HSC0691 DOMESTIC

-HSC0692 MEDICAL ERRORS

NOW, i know that in order to apply for the program you need to take the health core HCP0001, and turn in a copy of the certificate with your application, right?

I have read that the other certifications are not required to apply for the program, and can be taken during the program, is this correct ?

So, basically after getting done with health core, what else would I need to do to apply for the program?

I realize I need to take the hesi exam, so besides the hesi exam, and the health core, what else would I need to submit my application ?

You don't need to wait 6 months to retake the hesi at broward college, they just changed that policy, thanks god. I talked to a health admission assistant today.

Here is an experience I found by searching the forum, this has nothing to do with the creator of this thread, and it was not written by her/him, this is a different user, and the quote below is not a private conversation between that person and myself, I'm simply sharing her experience (which was publicly posted on this forum before, link below) on this thread, people who are applying to this program, should know and hear about both the positive and negative experiences, not just the good ones, not everything is goody goody in life

I must warn you about this particular nursing school. RUN far far away. The Broward College Central campus Nursing program is an an extremely corrupt program. I should begin with the facts. I attended this program with a 3.8 GPA. My starting class had over 100 students. I watched in horror as the instructors failed students left and right for the silliest of reasons. For example one fellow classmate was failed because during a clinical they went over the timed physical assessment by less than a minute. So they failed that student and you can only fail 2 classes which could include 2 clinical classes or 1 lecture and 1 clinical. Then you would have to go to LPN school to even be reconsidered to go to an RN program again. Most of the times for Clinicals they don't even need a valid reason to fail you, except it seemed to make room for the many students who had to retrack into the program from failing or perhaps to get more money. Clinicals was their easiest way to fail students. Although in Lecture they could easily make the exams nearly impossible to pass. FACT: Every student in my class was barely getting by with the minimum passing C. The faculty liked to warn us in the beginning that the C is the new A in nursing school. If you have ever gone to a descent Nursing school you would know this not to be true. There is a math test that they make you take every semester which you can only miss one question. No calculators permitted. If you fail this math test then you have to sit out an entire semester and are not allowed to go to the lecture nor clinical til you pass the math test the following semester. When I attended this program only 8 students out of my starting class of 150 ended up graduating. It seemed that if too many people were passing they made the exams that much harder. I remember students who were failed bringing lawyers to the school to try to fight the absurdities of the reasons they were failed. I did not give them the chance to fail me as I withdrew. I could not bare seeing the tears, agony and wasted money of another fellow classmate who would of made and exceptional nurse have their chances crushed of becoming a nurse because they naively went to this nightmare of a school. There were many of us and we literally dropped like flys. You are on pins and needles the entire time with these instructors as they seem to want to instill fear in the students. In clinicals I repeat they do not need a valid reason to fail you. I believe they are told to pass only a certain amount of students in each clinical. There are many other examples and horror stories I could relay about this program of seeing what was done to other students but it could probably fill a book. One student after having to retrack and sit out semesters made it to the end of the program, she had one class left to graduate and failed an exam by one point. They told her she had to go to LPN school to be reconsidered to get back into their RN program. I mainly write this to warn potential students to do your research before choosing a nursing program and do it well. But I am sure if you do your research on this particular nursing program via Central campus you will find what I say to be true. I do not know how a nursing program as horrific as this one is still able to continue. Perhaps it is from all the money they have made from 'retracking' their 'failed' students. Once you fail 2 nursing classes you are not eligible to get into any other RN program. Try explaining to another Nursing school the absurd reasons this particular school failed you out and they will look at you like you are crazy. I was one of the smart ones and withdrew from their program before they had the chance to fail me for some absurd reason and ruin my chances of getting into a legit nursing program. Nursing school is very difficult as it is but to know you are attending a school where they don't even need a valid reason to fail you is madness. This is just a warning take from it what you will
Thanks :)

I think that with anything you'll get out what you put into it. I've heard a few horror stories, but I am also prepared to change my lifestyle and completely focus on this program. I spoke with one graduate who just passed the NCLEX and he said the one piece of advice he'd give is to stay organized and focused. There are many negative and positive experiences, but at the end of the day each of us are going to figure it out for ourselves. If the program seems too hard to handle from reading one students experience then it's not worth the application fee to apply.

On the bright side, who's excited for the pre-admission meeting on Friday?!

I'm afraid of working hard and then failing for some absurd reasons, all my hard work for nothing, and probably in some debt
