Broward College August 2011

Hi guys, is anyone else working towards starting the nursing program at BC in August 2011? I am working on my last pre-reqs this semester (spring 11) and then apply and hopefully get accepted for the fall semester. I just took and passed the hesi exam last night and that is one big load off my back. I also started my hep shots since it takes 3 rounds of shots and a total of 6 months to be fully immunized. I want to have all of my ducks in order to start the program. I am undecided whether to go to south or central campus. Any advice?

:yeah:Good to hear that you are doing well!! Thank you for the advice, ANYTHING helps. How do you like Central?? Is there any myths about which campus is the "best"? What does your schedule look like in the begininng? Are there certain classes you are required to enroll in at specific times? How does it work??

Sorry for bugging you! IF I GET IN.. I want to have a bit of an idea of what I am looking at! Especially with two kids (5 and 1) lol.. :D

I cant say which campus is best since I have only been to central.

Process Theory M and F 9-12:30

Process Lab (on campus) T or W 7:30am-5:30 pm (approx. you may end up leaving a little earlier) Note the first week you will have lab both T and W but you are not really in the lab you are in the lecture room listening to alot of talking (scholarship people came in so that was good)

Process Lab (hospital) 6:30 am -6:30pm whatever day you have process lab on campus will be the same day you are in the hospital when you get the that point in the semester. I know for sure you have to be there at 6:30am not sure if they will let you out earlier.

First four weeks you will have the math class either M or TH from 1:30 to 4:30

Pharm on Thursdays from 5pm-7pm (I think there may be a pharm class on mondays but I am not sure)

Also you have to do 1.5 hrs in the lab every week on you own time. (really its more because you need 10hrs in there before return demo)

I am sure you will get in so dont stress, you will have enough of that when the program starts. Whatever it is that you enjoy doing in your free time do it as much as possible now because there wont be free time while in your first semester.

Hey you guys! I'm new to this website...I applied to the program for January 2012. And. I'm. Freaking. Out. lol thinking if I got accepted or not. For those that are in the program, how long did you have to wait to get the acceptance email?

how many points u have pinkyme? if u dont mind me asking

I am starting the program in January and I want to start reading now, can anyone recommend what book I should start in and things to focus on?

THANK YOU!!!

Congrats to all of you for getting in! I will start my 3rd semester this week at South Campus. If you guys have any questions or concerns just let me know, I will be happy to help you out. I remember my first semester I was so scared and overwhelmed and didnt know how I would get through it all but just know that you will and take things 1 assignment at a time. If you're not accustomed to using a planner now is the time to start...when I would get the syllabus I would write the reading and all other assignments on there to make sure I would get it done prior to the class day...always read the chapters they will lecture on before that way when you go to class this is the second time you'll be hearing the info and the more you hear it the better...Oh and make sure you really do your homework by the due date they will ask you to step out of the class until you complete it and you will miss whatever the rest of the class is going over and you can't afford to miss that...I had KG and JCS and they both did this. Know that you will be studying 12 hours a day and you will just be getting C's....but also know that at the end of Process 2 life gets so much better and you'll go back to getting good grades! =) Oh and use your modules...what I did was that I would read the modules first and then have it right next to me while I was reading and highlight my book according to the module...this was a huge help because its so much info that you just cant get it all in your head.

Now for math...dont worry about this just do the homework assigned and its pretty easy. If your not good at math do 10 problems every single day to get you ready..there are alot of practice problems if you google "Broward college nursing math" this is the north campuses website and that professor posts alot of good info and practice problems.

Pharm: If you have Json then he is easy...you dont need the book...before each test he will give you a blueprint and exactly what is on that blueprint will be on the test...its just memorization. If you have the other professor Jman like some of my classmates they did need the book and you have to read but I heard he gives a lot of extra credit questions which really helped out.

For you return demos...live in the lab...practice practice practice. Its simple stuff they test you on for Process 1 but your nerves get the best of you sometimes...just try to breath =)

Again good luck to you guys and let me know if I can be of any help.

hey thanks for the info, do u have any info on the processing lab professors?

Quick question,

Can someone explain to me how clinicals work? Do we pick the hospital we want? Or does it go according to whatever section/instructor you have. Are the same 9 people that are in your section that you registered for all together in the hospital or do they split us up?

Question for August 2011 Students...When do guys get done, completion date of program?

Since it's a two year program it should complete by Fall 2013. I'm not in the program by the way.

I believe we get out May 2013, the program is 18 months.

question: do u have to take micro during processing or can i take it anytime if i didnt do it before i got in?

You do NOT want to take micro during process. That is way too much, most people who didn't take it before wait until they finish the program.

Aug 2011 finishes in Dec 2013. You have no control over who any of your professors are or which hospital you go to. You have to be flexible.
