Broward College August 2011

Hi guys, is anyone else working towards starting the nursing program at BC in August 2011? I am working on my last pre-reqs this semester (spring 11) and then apply and hopefully get accepted for the fall semester. I just took and passed the hesi exam last night and that is one big load off my back. I also started my hep shots since it takes 3 rounds of shots and a total of 6 months to be fully immunized. I want to have all of my ducks in order to start the program. I am undecided whether to go to south or central campus. Any advice?

I was very excited to see that today is August 1st! I can finally say that I am starting Nursing school THIS month!! Woohoo!!

Just trying to imagine what d whole process is going to look like and how stressful the claim it is, God will definitely help us in Jesus Name Amen.

Were you able to turned in your paper? Because I called them, they said papers can only be turned in on August 5.

I dropped off my paperwork since 7/21 before my vacation. I am getting ready to pick up my originals tomorrow. 8/5 is for students who are attending South campus.

HOOOOOORAAYYYYY!!!:yeah:

I really like my schedule for the first semester. Everything starts early and ends early. Plenty of time to focus and study after class :)

depends on the campus you go to... i go to south and have been going back and forth to the finaid office all week (i'm applying for everything since i have to pay out-of-state). they seem to go through the line really fast. there are two kinds of loans that you can get. make sure you get the one where the government pays the interest while you are in school. for your freshmen year, the most that loan will be is $3500, but it goes up every year. there is also the other loan you can get, but while you are in school, it is accruing interest, and that one hurts.

what to do: just go into the finaid office, let them know that you want to apply for loans, (make sure you've already done your fafsa). they will give you a form that you can fill out there.

then you'll go online and sign the mpn (master promissory note). that is really easy, and is automatically sent to the school for you once you sign it.

you'll also have to attend a debt management class. even if you've had student loans before. kind of a drag, but it's only about 45min - hour, and they do them on campus (make sure you show up on time, that guy will not let you in even if you're 1 minute late!!!). once they get it in the system, they told me i would hear something in a week. :)

i've done all this before, and even paid off all my old student loans... so if you have any more questions let me know ;)

hey alana, do you already have a degree? if you don't mind, how much was your previous loan?

So I finally received emails with instructions for our first day of lecture and lab at South Campus. For lab it says to bring the Perry and Potter skills book & study guide with skills sheets. Are the skills sheets in the study guide? Or is this something that has to be purchased seperately?

I turned in my packet yesterday, (South campus) and they said all was good, such a relief to get all that taken care of :)))

I'm right there with you with a collection bucket for tuition lol. Long story short, I was eligible for part of the Pell Grant and now I'm not... there was a screw up in my FinAid paperwork, and the office is now aware of it but it will take time for them to fix... needless to say, Pell Grant money won't be available by Aug 10th to help pay for out-of -state tuition :crying2:

I'm not giving up that easy though!

Get used to Broward's messing up your financial aid. I had a person tell me and reassure me 5x that I didn't have to see an advisor and her supervisor told me I did and she wouldn't discipline her because "she's a good employee and I should have expected to see someone." Broward has bad financial aid people. Avoid them if you can.

Was wondering the same thing here. I went to the bookstore again to verify that I didnt miss something. The only thing that I can think of the is the Perry Potter Fundamentals Study guide and Perfomance Checklist. Not too sure:confused:

...It also said to read the chapters (lecture) based on the modules in the syllabus.....did anyone get the syllabus?

I have not gotten the syllabus. I was hoping I would see it in the modules. I have not bought those yet. I will get them after the Math class on Thursday. I am leaving on vacation and will not be around for a week. I am glad I saw these emails before I left. I will take the books with me and make sure I start reading at least the lecture chapters.

Modules are something you need to purchase??????

Yes, I know modules are small packets you have to buy for each class. So we need them for NUR1020 and NUR1210. It is around $20 or less and they are campus specific. I went about a week ago and they still did not have them at south campus :(
