Broward College August 2011

Hi guys, is anyone else working towards starting the nursing program at BC in August 2011? I am working on my last pre-reqs this semester (spring 11) and then apply and hopefully get accepted for the fall semester. I just took and passed the hesi exam last night and that is one big load off my back. I also started my hep shots since it takes 3 rounds of shots and a total of 6 months to be fully immunized. I want to have all of my ducks in order to start the program. I am undecided whether to go to south or central campus. Any advice?

Tiktok, I went to a Nursing Scrubs place in Pembroke Lakes Mall right outside of Dillards. They sell scrubs and Nursing shoes there. They are all white leather shoes. You could also find them online but I suggest trying them on because I am normally an 8.5 and went with an 8 in those shoes.

Thank u very much! There is a nursing store by my house that I will go to

Great! I'm getting the nursemates Callie. All the nurses in my floor wear them..They are more comfy for flat feet and look like a nurse shoe with a bit of heel. I got mine on the site nursemates.com I'm a 11.5 but I'm getting them wide so it should be good. The good part is that if u can't wear them or after u do they don't seem comfy they still get u another pair at no cost! Some nurses have done that.

Btw.. My financial aid is posted! I'm so excited but still u can't use it at bookstore till the 4th. Bummer..

My financial aid posted too.. Do you guys know how to apply for a private student loan? Im not gonna be able to work full time and i pay for alot at home.. Please let me know if u guys have any recommendations on loans?

 i finally got all my paperwork in order. i am getting ready to drop them at the north campus tomorrow. i will keep you posted.

fyi: if you're in the health care field, your employer maybe able to help the hep b, tb and tetorifice vaccine. some of them are more generous than others and would even cover the whole physical. "ask and you should receive" i am glad mine did. for some of us who have to pay out of pocket, every drop count. :yeah:

north campus here i come. i wish i had financial aid

I wanted South and got it!! I just went back to check on my schedule, I just wanted to make sure it was still there ;) and they change the teachers name for the NUR1020 Lecture class. Is anyone else going to South here? Can you check your schedule and see if it changed...... sooo weird!

I didnt realize they made the change. I heard that JCS is great. Great news!

I went to South Campus yesterday and turned in my packet. They quickly looked over it and said thank you. It was very easy and they were very nice. I did confirm that JCS will be our lecture professor for the first 8 weeks :)

I went to the bookstore and they were taking out all of the books for the August term. I was able to get the few I was missing. I am now only missing the modules and orientation packet. If everything checks out with the packet I turned in, I should be good to go :):yeah:

I went to Doctors 365 in plantation. I spent about the same. The Marine Corps slacked on ALL my shots, so I had to get ALL the titers!!! Ugh, but total it was $179, including the physical itself. I went in on Monday and they called me this morning (Friday) and I'm all set :) Not 72 hours, but still, it is only 5 minutes from the background/notary that we have to go to, so that was convenient.

depends on the campus you go to... i go to south and have been going back and forth to the finaid office all week (i'm applying for everything since i have to pay out-of-state). they seem to go through the line really fast. there are two kinds of loans that you can get. make sure you get the one where the government pays the interest while you are in school. for your freshmen year, the most that loan will be is $3500, but it goes up every year. there is also the other loan you can get, but while you are in school, it is accruing interest, and that one hurts.

what to do: just go into the finaid office, let them know that you want to apply for loans, (make sure you've already done your fafsa). they will give you a form that you can fill out there.

then you'll go online and sign the mpn (master promissory note). that is really easy, and is automatically sent to the school for you once you sign it.

you'll also have to attend a debt management class. even if you've had student loans before. kind of a drag, but it's only about 45min - hour, and they do them on campus (make sure you show up on time, that guy will not let you in even if you're 1 minute late!!!). once they get it in the system, they told me i would hear something in a week. :)

i've done all this before, and even paid off all my old student loans... so if you have any more questions let me know ;)

Hey Alana..that's great you have all your stuff and ready. Well the walmart one is 1 block from my house plus it's including the vaccine so i guess it's a pretty good deal. I need to do the rest this week before next. So did u guys read that we don't need the uniform till the 30th? Is that right ??

I have not seen anything on the uniforms or what to wear to class. I do have the uniforms washed and ready to go :) :nurse:

I called and asked about that, since they told me we don't get the "supply list" until orientation. The guy on the phone for South Campus, said to wear regular civilian attire, until after the orientation because that is when we will find out. (Even though it's kind of obvious what the uniform will be ) I'm going to call again though... just to get verification... and even if I get the same answer, I'm still going to have a pair of scrubs in my car lol ;)
