Hi guys, is anyone else working towards starting the nursing program at BC in August 2011? I am working on my last pre-reqs this semester (spring 11) and then apply and hopefully get accepted for the fall semester. I just took and passed the hesi exam last night and that is one big load off my back. I also started my hep shots since it takes 3 rounds of shots and a total of 6 months to be fully immunized. I want to have all of my ducks in order to start the program. I am undecided whether to go to south or central campus. Any advice?
I wanted South and got it!! I just went back to check on my schedule, I just wanted to make sure it was still thereand they change the teachers name for the NUR1020 Lecture class. Is anyone else going to South here? Can you check your schedule and see if it changed...... sooo weird!
I noticed that too. When you register, it says Gamble, but when you actually print your schedule it says Carter, but only for Process 1, not 2.
Also, I went to the bookstore at SOUTH, don't waste your time, all the woman would say is that nothing will be ready until the beginning of next month. I did notice that at the SOUTH bookstore there are a fair amount of scrubs. So if anyone wanted to get a pair, they have a decent selection still. Also, the nursing department said that on the 23rd during the orientation is when we would get our list of books and supplies... that would mean we would go at least our first week and a half of school WITHOUT books and supplies... this makes no sense considering that the MTB1370 class is ONLY 5 weeks long!!!
I'm just going to email the Pharmacology and MTB professors for answers. I want those materials so I can try to get a head start. Those 2 classes for sure I know I don't want to be without the materials on the first day!!! Any kind of head start I can get, I want to take. Besides, I don't see the logic in starting a difficult program without the necessary materials!!
I asked about turning in paperwork, and the girl in the nursing office at SOUTH campus confirmed that we can turn in our paperwork UP TO that date :) So yay for that news :yeah:
For all of those who are having luck with the FinAid office, congratulations!!! :) It's good to know that something good is coming from there! I'm still fighting my way for some help, little by little... Out-Of-State fees are murder in this state...
Even more good new my son with be going to the childcare center on campus and since I qualify for finaid it will only cost $13 a week!!!! Today was a good day.
WOW that is amazing!!! I personally do not have any children, but all of my friends do, and I know that daycare is a HUGE payment. Congratulations to you! I think it's really amazing that the school is able to provide daycare like that, especially on campus.
BTW I really want to give major kudos to all the nursing students out there that have children and are taking on this difficult program. It takes a strong person to be able to do that. I have to work while I'm in the program, and that alone is difficult. So congratulations to all of you student/parents :) keep up the amazing work

Thanks, I nearly cried when they called and told me they have a spot for him, without finaid the childcare center cost $140 for his age group, so $13 is unbelievable. I have an amazing husband and family and they are really supportive. Good luck with working and school, I know that will also be a balancing act but know others who have been successful.
Hi everyone! I'm so excited things are running smooth so far. Registered for north finally! Question any luck on some good WHITE SHOES???? I hear they are pretty strict with that. I have big (11.5) and super flat feet. I suffer a lot with bad shoes and we are gonna need some support and good shoes right? So plzzzzz any suggestions? Dansko? Nursemates? Difficult to get all good all white sneaker :-(
for all those students attending the north campus i would advise that you take the time out to review the information on ms. brickman's website. it's alot of details and very imformative. we are certainly in a rough ride but i have my helmet and knee pads on, so they can bring it on!!!!! hahaha......
in orientation they stated that north have 90 seats......i have "faith" that all will go well and at the end of the program if only 25 students out of that 90 is left; you can surely beat i'll be one of the 25.......
~~~getting myself mentally prepared~~~
Awesome! Thanks for the positive thoughts and determination with your conviction. This is gonna be rough and when you see that more than 50% fail in the first semester let's you understand this; if your a procrastinator with bad studying habits that just happened to get accepted? Rethink ur priorities, put ur head on the game, want this with all your heart and know that this career is life changing; rewarding and we are the ones that could make a difference in this world. Savings lives is no joke and def not for the weak of conviction. I am here today alive because of amazing nurses and doctors. So ladies and gentlemen I'm ready...top of my class all the way baby!!!
Alana, thank you for all of the GREAT information. I am soooo happy to hear that we could already turn in the paperwork and not have to deal with the 1 day madness LOL! Let me know if you hear back from the Math and Pharm teachers. Hopefully they will shed some light as to what materials we will need. I can't believe the bookstore is not ready for next semester I am leaving on vacation and would love to have everything ready to go by the time we leave. Did you hear anything about an orientation before school starts? Hopefully not :) since I will not be here LOL! Alana, thank you again for the info. I am going by the school tomorrow and will let you know if I hear anything new. I plan to sit in the Financial Aid office for a while LOL!
I bought the Nursemates Dove. They are not super pretty but they are really comfortable and it meets the schools standards :)
Tiktok, I went to a Nursing Scrubs place in Pembroke Lakes Mall right outside of Dillards. They sell scrubs and Nursing shoes there. They are all white leather shoes. You could also find them online but I suggest trying them on because I am normally an 8.5 and went with an 8 in those shoes.
