Broward August 2015

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site, but I've seen other threads for other semesters for Broward College. I didn't find one for August 2015. I figured this would be a good place to share each other's excitement to (HOPEFULLY!) start the program in August. Let's all support each other on this journey! :)

I got my response, so i aint worried bout nothing!

Please Do Not be misinformed there is no such thing as a "easy nursing school". Anything dealing with patient-centered care and the Life of Humans are hard work. BC does have a very high NCLEX passing rate but other institutions in the South Florida area does as well including UM, FIU etc. You can research it. Also this is a ASN program which send out more students than BSN programs. Research that as well.

I can't seem to find where the links are for the background testing and the physical form.. I know I've seen it on the Broward website before, but now I can't find it. Can anyone assist? :)

There's a link at the bottom of ur acceptance email

Broward College - Health Sciences Admissions

I would hope that we would be treated fairly with respect, dignity, and kindness. I would think that's what most students would want from the instructors and administration. That is what will make an institution of learning a great one that past students are proud to be associated with. The way the students are treated they will treat their patients and coworkers.

Thank you for your the wonderfull suggestions. Ill check out the North campus to get a feel for it.

And see if I can talk to some students.

My first choice was Broward, but after reading some of the reviews on this forum, I began to second guess myself. But it could be the disgruntle students posting their "bad" experience.

Here is my reasoning:

Browards acceptances policy is substantially more lax than PBSC. Broward accepted 300 out of 400 students this fall. Thats 75% of the applicants ranging GPA between 2.8-4.0. On the other hand PBSC accepted 180/675 in 2014 about 26% of the applicants with GPA ranging from 3.4-4.0. The 75 percent of accepted applicants vs 26 percent of accepted applicants is a huge difference. This leads to me to believe there is a big gap/diversity in incoming population academic qualifications. I am thinking the Broward complainers on the board are the ones who did not anticipate the seriousness and dedication required by the nursing program. PBSC has less diversity, because the program is so much more competitive (26% acceptance rate), hence the students population are the top notch.

In terms of NCLEX pass rates Broward had 92% pass rate while PBSC has an 82.82% for 2014.

So yes Broward seems to produce better trained Nurses, based on NCLEX - but the drop out rate is so much greater in Broward. However, thats probably because of the gaps in the skill set of the population that gets weeded out.

Id like to research my professors as well in the North Campus - looking at the registration page most of the North Campus professors are TBA. :(

I would wait until Friday to get the forms . When I spoke to the lady at North she told me some of the forms needed to be updated . So I'm just waiting until Friday to receive everything .

The RN program IS covered by Financial Aid. Until you show accepted into the RN program, financial aid will not be dispersed.

If you have any questions regarding your specific situation, on your account, please visit the Financial Aid office on any BC campus.

Never thought about that. Good idea. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks . It makes sense since I have not signed the contract yet. But thank you I will see broward fin aid this friday after my orientation to see if me having an AA in business stops me from getting fin aid for Nursing. From what I read it does not stop me but I want to make sure.

Hello all

I am new to this site. I've been reading all the comments and what a great group of new cohorts. I was also accepted into the program. Yay...... can't wait to meet everyone. I have only one additional comment to make, my mom is a nurse and from what she tells me is when she was in school some of the book smart people had a hard time in the clinical setting. It really boils down to your critical thinking skills which you can have with a 2.8 or 4.0. Good luck to everyone.

You're welcome
