Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get a thread started for all of the BHC/MVC students; please help me get a support system going here. I am starting at BHC in Jan. 07 and would love to make contact with the other new students. It would also be great if the current students would join in too, maybe share some advise;) /horror stories.:uhoh21: I'm sure that you current students have a lot to say.

El Centro/Northlake has a couple of really good threads going, but it would sure be great to talk with those I will be going to school with too.

Good Luck to everyone!

omg...you're in, you're in, you're in!

congrats to all the "baby" nurses!

everyone that has posted is right. it goes by so fast.

classes - get what you can out of the way. patho-get the "incredible easy" book. asap, practice dosage calc.

steth - i got the cheap one, a spraggue...works great...$20.

white scrubs - get tide pen (works great). wear "your" skin tone underwear. just because the scrubs are white doesn't mean that's the best color for you...get in front of a mirror people!!!

work - i did, part-time...full-time...forget it! that's just me. i'm married have have a young son.

instructors - love them all! had routh for clinicals 1 and 2. didn't cry. she is tough, but it made me stronger. i only heard of her "yelling" one time. basically people cryed because you're just worn plum out. lecture, clinical, late late late nights. she is amazing!

had schmitt for preceptorship. she is awesome too! realy gets your mind clicking.

it's an amazing journey...emotions run high and low. don't be surprised if fellow students (or yourself) get a little b***hy. it happens, and then your/they're over it. just hang on and have fun!

later!

I'll have Routh for End of Life this Maymester. That's nice to hear!:nuke:

I'm taking End of Life issues this maymester also, it sure is good to hear this because I'm also taking Patho at Mountain View this Maymester, any tips anyone? I'm really stressing out because I don't know what to expect, I hear it's hard!

Thanks!

End of life has several papers to write but is not a hard class. Patho is a very important class as far as nursing is concerned. If you know your patho you will do well in Nursing school. I am not sure that you will have enough time to study during May mester if you take both classes. But that is because I spent quite a bit of time studying for Patho I took it in the summer.

Thanks! Patho is an Maymester/Summer I & II course but it's still 12 weeks, I think 4 weeks lesser than a regular semester. Well I guess I better gear up. I'm trying to just get over Finals and here I am already worried about next term. YEEK! How's it going for you?

Thanks!

I took it during the summer also, but I took it online. It wasn't bad at all. It would be if it were just 4 weeks though....I can't even imagine that!

Can anyone tell me how 3rd semester, as far as the level of difficulty, compared to the other semesters? Which one is the hardest? It just seems so overwhelming to have 3 different lectures and 3 different clinicals in one semester.

How did it work for everyone else? It also says on the website that we have clinical M-F for some of it...I don't know how that will work if we have lecture TW.

Any information would be much appreciated!

Thanks! :)

Hi, Can ya'll tell me if the nursing program (lecture, lab and clinicals, ect) is 4 days a week or 5?

Thanks for the info.

Depends upon the semester. Sorry. My first semester was Monday - Thursday, Second semester Monday - Thursday. Third semester Two days for lecture and two days for clinical.( my clinical was on the weekend). Fourth semester two days for lecture and two for clinical ( my clinical was on the weekend). First and second semester have labs, and you will need to go to lab and practice on your own time. This is for nursing classes only if you have any support classes left more time in lecture. Lots of time studying.
