Hey everyone,
I just wanted to get a thread started for all of the BHC/MVC students; please help me get a support system going here. I am starting at BHC in Jan. 07 and would love to make contact with the other new students. It would also be great if the current students would join in too, maybe share some advise;) /horror stories.:uhoh21: I'm sure that you current students have a lot to say.
El Centro/Northlake has a couple of really good threads going, but it would sure be great to talk with those I will be going to school with too.
Good Luck to everyone!
oh, please don't think she's horrible! She's a great instructor...I'm just a bit soft and need encouragement and nurturing. I have LOVED my current clinical instructor and the skills lab coordinator is awesome :) But because I know how sensitive I can be I want to do my research and pick a teacher that I think would be compatible with me. I just feel like I'll have enough of someone yellin' at me when I'm in the workforce, so why subject myself to it now.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you! May I ask who your current instr. is?
Thanks!
Yeah, I never had Mrs Routh for clinicals, but for End of Life and Fundamentals she was great, and I love her, but she was hard on her groups for our class too, and some people would get upset. She asks alot of questions because she wants you to know your stuff, and I think that people in her group probablly learned more because you had to be on your toes. If you didn't know your stuff though than I guess she would get disappointed, and I don't know how I would do, because I am sensitive too.
Mrs McLleland was great in clincals first semester. She would get in there and help with patient care, bed baths and hanging IVs, instead of just watching. She was just really laid back and that made us comfortable, especially for 1st semester when you are nervous anyway.
But really, all of our staff are great. I haven't met any "bad" instructors and Brookhaven!
wow...she was so different in class. I remember she was all about relaxing, being calm and feelings. At first it kind of weirded me out because I wasn't used to a professor being like that (always asking how you felt about stuff). I also found it interesting that when you would answer her she would take a minute or two and really think about what you said before she replied. She was also very much a touchy feely person, and when she was showing you how to talk to patients she would touch your hand, shoulder etc like she would do to a patient. That creeped me at first too, but by the end I was more comfortable. I made all A's in the course, and honestly I really didn't try all that hard.
I guess she has to be tougher in the hospital environment.
you'll go through the summer...that's what makes it a fast track ADN. only 16 months-woohoo! I'm so happy for you :) I remember being sooo excited and wanting to start right away. Once Ann sends out a group email giving your class more info you'll be able to see who else is in with you. And you'll probably see a ton of familiar names; then you can start reaching out to others and building connections. yay!

It makes sense, and I hadn't heard that. I don't know much about what to expect with clinicals. I'm glad I've found this board to get some tips. I'm not sure I'm strong enough either:zzzzz Actually, it seems like I've been through so much just to get through all the pre-req's and support courses and HESI, that when I hear all the horror stories people post I get a bit discouraged!
