I have a couple of questions! I read previous forums but I’d like to hear from you as well ?

First, how hard did you find the writing prompt and interview questions to be? I’m going to prepare ahead of time at career services, but I’m interested to hear your experience!

Second, what happens after acceptance? Do you get a schedule of due dates and classes so you can prepare?

You are an ANGEL for offering advice and help! ?

Faring okay so far! Nursing school is definitely hard and EVERYONE will tell you that. But its definitely doable. There are days that I wonder why I’m putting myself through this but then I get to clinical and I see again why I am doing this. At this point, we are still in class and clinicals and I’m really hoping that they don’t close us down for the coronavirus.

The programs good so far! Our schedule looks like Foundations lecture Wednesday AM. I have clinicals thursdays all day. Fridays are skills but we are split into two groups and I fall in the AM skills group. You get broken into groups and that will be your clinical group and they will be your rock. You will fall in love with them. The other clinical groups go to clinical different days of the week. Also the first 6 weeks of your first semester you do something called pre-clinical. We had ours on saturdays but its over now. You basically just learn so essential skills for clinicals in that time. As far as working goes, it is definitely possible to work at least part time. I am very lucky and only work about 8 hrs a week but they are others forced to work full time and there are definitely people who are successful still.

Okay so the interview and writing sample were so daunting to me. There are three interviewers, we went in groups of 5 and were asked two questions each. The questions they ask are behavioral questions and like why you wanna be a nurse. There are tons of fo behavioral questions on the internet so I would recommend googling some and practicing them and how to answer them. (https://www.thebalancecareers.com/how-to-answer-behavioral-interview-questions-2059622) The question we got asked for the writing sample was “what are three traits of a good nursing student”. So you'll show up and check in with barb and she'll have you sit and wait till it your interview window. Then someone will take you back to a room and you'll do your 20 minute writing sample, then go in and do your interview. It wasn’t as scary as thought. We had about 20 minutes to just sit there and talk before the interview and writing sample and it helped calm us down. And all the staff were really nice and calm and seemed like they wanted us to succeed. We got in the interview room and they were all smiling and told us to relax(as if we could) and repeated any questions we needed them to. After acceptances, they will send out a letter with all the things you need to do before the semester starts like a physical, shoes and scrubs, drug test, background check, etc. Then you’ll get another email a few weeks later about books and you probably won’t get a syllabi/schedule till about 2 weeks befor classes start. If I were to give you more advice, I would say try to enjoy this season of life as much as you can. Getting my acceptance was one of the sweetest moments of my life. I worked hard for soooo long and I assume most of you all have as well and before you know it you’ll be standing in a hospital hall in clinicals, taking it all in and reveling in the fact that you have made it that far. And I am far from an angel, just trying to pay it forward for all the people who answered all my questions when I was applying. Let me know if you have any other questions!!

Thank you so much @cariboulover for this insight! Has the coronavirus interrupted your studies? Have they talked much about it?

Thank you SO much for the advice! This is amazing and so insightful. I know I don’t know you, but I am proud of you! I don’t even have an interview yet, but I get my email in 10 days (eeeek!)

I have 33 points so far so I think I have a good shot at getting an interview.

What points did you have going into yours? ?

So far it hasn't but they are waiting till the end of Spring break to make a decision, but with the way everything else is going, I'm betting that something is gonna happen whether its an extended Spring break or classes switch online or what not. We have had a had a meeting about how to protect ourselves in the hospitals IF we are allowed to continue on with clinicals. I'm really hoping we aren't effected but of course I'm willing to whats best for our community.

Looks like Spring break has extended ? I guess this will effect interview notifications.
