Hi all! I thought I would start a new thread for all the people who got in Brookhaven's Fall 2010 program. I figured the people who did not get in would not want to see our posts anymore.
I did want to let you all know that I asked my friend that is first semester at Brookhaven, and she said that the scrubs they wear for clinical rounds are hunter green. They have to be embroidered on the back "brookhaven college" and the front has to have your name. Apparently there is a special order form that will be sent to us by ***. She suggests that you get 2 pairs when *** sends the order form, becasue she only got one, and she is now ordering an extra pair. She also said that she bought some other scrubs (all different colors) to wear when she is at school, because it is easier to work in. *** will e-mail us about all this but thought I would clue you in on what I know.
Anyone else got any news? LOL
Can't wait to meet you all (if I have not already)
Hi Shabana25, I was actually automatically enrolled in it and got an e-mail telling me to go online to pay for it... Check econnect and see if you happened to have been put in the class. If you weren't let me know and I'll message you with the contact info for the woman who let me know I had been enrolled.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just checked it online. I am not in the class. Please let me know if there is anything that I can still do. Thanks
Hi everybody! Congratulations on your acceptance into the program! I am currently finishing up my first semester in the program. It is so awesome! You are all going to love it. The faculty is so awesome! Let me give y'all a couple of words of advice...BE FLEXIBLE, OMG, you will see what I mean. Haha. Also, start saving up money, and lots of it! Books for first semester were over $1000 (don't panic, most of those carry on to all semesters). The books on the list that they will give you are only half of what you actually need, you need soooooooooooo many books. Also, you will need to buy a bunch of random stuff at the beginning of the semester (i.e. stethoscope, nursing kit, etc.) We were all a little shocked because nobody told us about all of the extras. So, I'm telling you this to warn you, not to scare you, get at least $1500 put aside for all your "stuff" this semester...books, scrubs, lab coat, stethoscope, nursing supply kit, pen light, etc. Don't run out and buy this stuff tomorrow, wait until you are given more instruction, just be sure to save up.
Anyway, your next step will be success camp which was two days long for our group. They e-mailed us two extremely looooooooooooooong documents that we had to print out and bring with us (they e-mailed it the night before! remember that flexibility thing?!), and basically you read over some 200 pages for two days...rules, procedures, etc. They also had a bunch of speakers lined up to talk to us to promote different products. So that kind of gives you an idea of what to expect for success camp. We also had a big potluck on the second day of success camp which was cool. :-) Also, at the end of the second day is when we selected our schedules...it is based on a lottery system. You will draw a number out of a cup and they will start with 1 and go to 40 and let you pick your schedule.
I'm only telling you all of this because I remember being in your shoes...I had a MILLION questions and nobody to answer them. :-)
Good luck to you all! You are about to embark on an awesome journey! (How cheesy is that?!) ;-)
Omg thank you so much Chelsea! You're awesome for letting us know all of this. Did you have financial aid to help you pay for the first semester's books & "stuff"? Did you buy the book package from the school or did you buy it on your own?
When does your second semester start and end? All 3 months of summer?
I had to get in on this thread just because it was all so new and confusing to us all when we were sitting in success camp!
to answer some q's, i've heard mixed things about financial aid. i wouldn't count on it being there right away. i have friends that are still getting awards for spring, which is basically over. you might have to pay up front and then just use your loans to payback whatever it is you used to pay it (credit card, mom, dad, grandma, etc).
our summer session starts may 17 and run to the end of summer II. It's going to be rough!
most of us bought the book package. some bought books used, but really i'd say 95% bought the package from Majors bookstore, which was cheaper than Brookhaven. Like Chelsea said, have a fund for extras and be FLEXIBLE!
hi @chelsea3213
Regarding the book package, I think mostly everybody I have talked to regretted buying it. I wish I would have bought used books online...it would have saved a ton! They will try and sell the "electronic" package to you, which sounds really amazing, but in actuality, I have used it three times during the whole semester. Ha. Not worth the money.
