Hi all,
I wanted to create this thread for students applying to BCC's program for Fall 2021. How are things going for everyone in the current climate? Please feel free to share your thoughts, experiences, etc. Former/current students, do you have any insight to share?
Looking forward to hearing from you!

First semester is a lot of basics: Basic skills like Blood pressures, bed baths, using a bedpan, injections, vitals, etc.
You are pretty much learning what is normal and learning to use your critical thinking skills.
You also have to take NUR100 with 101 which will teach you about good research and a background of nursing
Just now, ghezitto said:What class are you in right now? How many exams are you taking a week?
I'm in my 2nd semester in Maternity/L&D/Pediatrics (BCC calls it Parent-Child)
4 exams a semester + 1 final and 1 med math exam each semester
Each exam is 15 points, The final is 35, and the math is 5. So far that has stayed the same both semesters

Usually a 12 hr day is 7-7 and a 6hr day could be split either way 7-1 or noon - 6
One hospital last semester I think started us at 8? but that wasn't my group
With Covid a few groups only got 4hrs per week last semester which was really sad. And right now only a few students are going to Women & Infants for clinicals the rest of us are doing computer work

Whether it is based on reading the whole chapter or just what is in the powerpoint really depends on the professor. Technically you are responsible for the whole chapter.
Exams aren't out to trick you though, they review the exams after to decide if a question came across tricky and sometimes they throw that question out (rarely though)
None of the professors are mean, but some can be tougher than others. It is for your own good though because they are usually tougher on things that could be dangerous to you or the patient. For example recapping needles or forgetting to put side rails up.

To get your mind off waiting, did anyone have more questions for someone already in the program?
