I'm looking for anyone who is applying to this school this year. Please let us know when you applied and any progress you make to getting accepted. Good luck to everyone!
I applied in early Dec. and decided to to retake the TEAS test before sending it for review. Form what I understand it takes anywhere from 2 weeks - 2 months to get accepted or not. Past experience has said more like the 2 months is the norm. I should be getting my results from the TEAS test today and it will be promptly moved to review next week (1/19/15). I will confirm the date when it actually gets sent.
I will update any progress as I get it.
Thanks bwork,
To be honest, I am a little sad about this decision because I thought this would be a great class to be in. I feel I have gotten to know everyone - even if it was just a little bit. Maybe, some how, we will cross paths in the future. Good luck to all and I am preying for all who are still waiting to get in.
Well, to my surprise I made it into NVCC! I have to say that because I will get an Associates degree with NVCC and will be unable to do the same at BHSN, I have to accept the seat at Naugatuck. I will be giving up my seat to someone who is on the bubble so that they may have a chance at being a nurse. I wish everyone success on their journey.
But you can get your ADN with BHSON. You have to pass the RN program, become licensed, take English 101 at HCC and have at least 16 credits there. If you plan on going onto RN to BSN you can take 16 credits there toward your BSN and be done with it. Just a thought if you really had your heart set on BHSON.
But I do get what you mean. Most of the postings I've seen for RN positions require an ADN at the minimum.
Associates Degree Program
The Associate in Science Degree Program is a collaborative effort between Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and Housatonic Community College. It allows graduates of BHSN to receive an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing from Housatonic Community College. To be eligible for the degree, the student must be a graduate of BHSN, pass the licensure examination as an RN, complete an additional required 3 credit course (ENG*E102 Literature & Composition), have completed at least 16 of the total credit hours at Housatonic Community College and enroll in their nursing program.
Please visit Housatonic Community College's site for more information.
The BSN program doesn't have a start date as of yet as far as I've heard. There is no info on it on the BHSON site.
In the January 2015 Minutes of the Meeting for the CT Board of Nurses I read
http://www.ct.gov/dph/lib/dph/phho/nursing_board/minutes/2015/boen_minutes_january_2015.pdf :
UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT
FEASIBILITY STUDY
Dr. Stephen Healey, Associate Provost at the University of Bridgeport, and Dr. Carol Papp of the
University of Bridgeport were both present to present the Addendum to the Feasibility Study for
the University of Bridgeport that was presented to the Board on December 3, 2014. The Board
had requested additional information before making their final decision. The Board reviewed the
documentation presented and complimented Dr. Papp and Dr. Healey for all the work that was
put into this report in such a short amount of time and also during the holiday season. Mary
Brown moved to approve the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing transition to the University
of Bridgeport for their BSN Program. The motion was seconded by Geraldine Marrocco and
passed unanimously.
So it sounds as if they are approved for the new program. However, I can't find anything on the BHSON or UB website regarding the program.
Well done CT Pixie, ASN, RN,
Thanks for looking out for me. However I already done all of my courses and I don't have 16 credits left to give Housantonic. Therefore I am not eligible to get an associates with BHSN.
