I work day shift and often eat breakfast before morning report at 7am. Usually an English muffin egg sandwich.
I find that I'm hungry again by 9am, sometimes before my morning assessments and med passes are done. The hunger just grows until I'm distracted and irritable, ugh!
Does anybody with the same problem have a suggestion for a power breakfast that will last me more than a couple of hours?
Thanks!

If I'm working during the day shift I usually prepare my breakfast to eat in the car (around 0545 am).
Yougurt mixed w high fiber cereal, banana, coffee. Or I make a hardboiled egg, slice it up, add some low fat mayo, then slap 2 pieces of bread on it.
Theses usually last me until 1030 when I start feeling shaky and just not all together. Then, I usually have a snack like an apple or gram crackers w peanutbutter. Without a snack I'd FREAK out!!
This will hold me until lunch (If I get a chance to eat at all)
For me at least the trick to not starving is to have handy snacks that are filling, not messy, and quickly edible.:pumpiron:

Peanut Butter! I have found that a peanut butter sandwich (with or without jelly) on whole wheat bread is very satisfying and keeps the hunger at bay for several hours.
I can't eat anything sweet (no jelly for my sandwich) in the mornings, or I wind up hypoglycemic by about 10am.
I have tried other breakfast options, but this one works the best for me!
Good Luck!

Assuming you're otherwise healthy, why do you want to fight this? Obviously your body is telling you it needs nourishment. Take a few minutes mid-morning and eat a quick snack--- a protein bar, some fruit and milk, whatever.

My day starts with a bowl of oatmeal and juice. If the energy starts to sag midmorning, pack a little snack or juice to keep you moving till lunch.

I think everybody needs a snack during the shift....I work 12s and nights. I tend to eat a smallish/medium size dinner before work at like 3:30....then, have my regular dinner around 8-9, before middle rounds. Then, I wind up having a drink and snack about 1 or 2. You have heard the advice that 5-6 small frequent meals a day is now the "bible" of dieting workouts....why not grocery shop with that in mind?
hard boiled eggs, jerky, lunchmeat(in moderation), popcorn, string cheese just make sure you have some protein in every meal/snack...keeps you fuller longer.

Slim Fast makes these Muffin snack bars that are excellent, and keep hunger away between meals. I like the banana nut ones..... :)

You are a fast metabolizer, as am I. It really stinks. I love egg MC's too.
Protien. I always keep a little stash of almonds around too.
Good luck.

I just started a new job where I am working the morning shift. I am not used to that since I was night shift before and had an eating routine down. I usually eat breakfast on my way to work...usually around 0630. I find the Thomas English Multigrain muffins with 2 slices of turkey and one slice of provolone cheese along with a packet of blueberry oatmeal holds me over until right around noon or so. And the whole meal is around 360 calories depending on the cheese and the oatmeal brand. I help this helps.

I appreciated these suggestions, myself. I was wondering what I can snack on that is really not fattening, but can fill me up for a few hours. Thanks for starting this tread. Nurses really rock!

Drinking a yogurt smoothie along with whatever it is you're eating can add some extra protein. For me, protein and some complex carbohydrates last longer than the carbs alone.
