Boston College Traditional MS Program Fall 2013

Published

Hi all,

I wanted to start a thread for anyone who is applying to the traditional MS program at Boston College for Fall 2013 start. I am applying for the Women's Health NP track. Any opinions about this program would be appreciated. I'm also curious if anyone knows a timeline when admissions decisions will be made? Good luck!

I am working on my application for the psych/mental health NP program at BC. I'm also finishing up my last class at UMass Boston (RN to BSN). The "goal statement" is giving me the most anxiety... Have you already submitted your application? Any idea how many people are applying and/or acceptance rate? Good luck!

Yes, I submitted my app already. I have no idea how many apply or how many are accepted. I have looked at their website multiple times trying to find that kind of info. It seems easy to find those things for bachelor's level programs, but once you get to the grad programs it's not as obvious. The only thing I did find out was when they will be notifying people of admission. I don't know if it's the same timeline since I applied to the Women's Health NP track, but I was told via email that they are trying to let people know in the end of May.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your essay and on getting admitted to the program!

Thanks good luck to you too. A coworker of mine is currently in the Women's health NP program. She started in January. I didn't ask her how quickly she heard back but I will next time I see her.

Also, I know the application doesn't ask for a resume but I wonder if that would be good to send/attach to the goal statement?

Let me know if you find a discussion about this program elsewhere on this site. I was surprised there weren't more people out there doing the traditional entry...

Hello rainingeleven!

I also applied for the Fall 2013 WHCNP program at BC. I am happy to hear they will be contacting candidates by the end of May. That is exciting! My husband and I are moving to Boston this summer from the West Coast. I have been a nurse in women's health for 6 years and I am really excited about the possibility of going back to school for my NP. If you don't mind me asking, are you from Boston? Why did you choose to apply to BC?

Best of luck getting into the program! Please keep me updated if you hear anything and I will do the same:)

No, I'm actually from the West Coast as well...California. Where are you moving from? I decided to apply to BC because the Women's Health specialty was offered there, the program did not require me to have RN experience before applying, and I had not missed the deadline. I am a new grad RN (well, sort of. I graduated a year ago) and have not had any luck in this horrible job market. I was always planning on going back to school eventually for either NP or CNM, but decided to apply now as a back up plan in case I still don't have a job by this fall. I applied to several other programs in various locations, about half for WHNP and half for CNM (and one for FNP).

Do you know anything about the BC program? I'm sure it is a great program, but I'm having a hard time finding opinions on the quality of NP programs online. I feel like it's much easier to find that kind of info for undergraduate programs. I suppose if I get in, I will contact the school and ask for some stats such as success rates of graduates finding employment soon, etc.

Did you apply anywhere else? Good luck! I hope we both get in (:

I live in Portland, OR :) I am sorry that you haven't had any luck finding a job as a new grad. I was fortunate that the job market was great when I graduated. I worked in L&D right out of school and have been in women's health ever since.

I have a family member who went to BC but not to the School of Nursing- he was a Business major. He loved it and he is still a die hard Eagle! I have heard from other Bostonians that BC's NP program is really strong and it has a great reputation in the community.

I've applied to a few other NP programs but my options were limited because I have not taken my GRE. If I don't get in this Fall, my plan is to take the GRE so I can send out more applications next semester.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

Have you heard?

Yes, unfortunately I did not get in. I got an email about a week ago. I did get into 3 other programs and also have an interview for an RN job next week, so at least there are some good options (:

How about you?

Yes, I got into all three programs I applied to. I am happy to say that I have chosen to attend BC because it seems like to best fit. I wish you the best of luck in whatever program you choose and hope the new job works out! Take care.

Moved to PRE NP forum.

I'm looking to find out how long the traditional MS program is at BC if done full-time. Or if you did it part-time, how long did you take to finish? Did you work at the same time? Any input greatly appreciated.
