Boston College Masters Entry 2015

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all,

I couldn't find the thread to this, and since the deadline had passed, I'm wondering if anyone else here applied for the program!

I need to complete pathophysiology (online) before the start of the school. Can anyone recommend a cheap school to take it at? :)

May might be a little overzealous, but September is definitely the most competitive month to find housing, Boston being a college town and all. There are plenty of places off-the-beaten-track you might have better luck in than the area directly around BC, as long as you have a car or aren't intimidated by lots of train transfers!

I've lived in Boston (South End neighborhood, no car) for two years and I think it's better to look early than later for housing. The housing market is competitive in Boston, especially with all the students/transplants. Sept 1st is a HUGE move-in date for the city so a lot of leases will begin then. I think MGH is in Charlestown which is a neighborhood of Boston, but it's outside of the "city" (I've been driven there and had the chance to walk around for a school project and that was my impression). I would highly recommend finding a place that's near a bus stop that will take you directly (or walking distance) to MGH IHP - no transfers. I don't think there are any T (Boston's subway system) stops near the school. Boston's public transportation is pretty good, but timing transfers and dealing with the impact of snow kinda sucks (that's my opinion anyway lol).. Let me know if you have any Qs about Boston though!

Thanks. I lived in Boston when I was younger, so I'm familiar with it, I just haven't ever rented there. I don't mind living far out, like in Roxbury or JP--I'm even considering Hyde Park, what with the cheaper rent there. The commute would be ~45 min. on a normal day, which is about what you'd expect for getting across the city.

Has anyone made a facebook group yet?

It doesn't look like there's one yet

I spoke to a few recent grads from BCs direct entry program (psych specialty) and they both said that the vast majority of their graduating cohort had multiple job offers before graduating. That eased my worries!

Is anyone planning to attend the accepted student day?

I'll be there for the accepted students day! Hopefully it's not still snowing then!:)

Did anyone else get accepted for the WHNP track?

After a bit of lurking, I finally logged on. I have been accepted to the Pediatric track and I'm really excited. The BC program has a great reputation (even if the short length seems a little crazy to me)! I'm going to be going to the accepted students day and I look forward to seeing you there! I also applied to MGH, UMASS Worcester, and Simmons but I think MGH is the only other program I'd really consider.

Why not Simmons?
