Boston College Masters Entry 2015

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all,

I couldn't find the thread to this, and since the deadline had passed, I'm wondering if anyone else here applied for the program!

I need to complete pathophysiology (online) before the start of the school. Can anyone recommend a cheap school to take it at? :)

I actually found an online patho course at butler community college in Kansas, which was half the price of the one at UNE. If anyone else is interested, it starts on 3/23 and ends 5/15.

That sounds awesome! This will satisfy the requirement for the course?

It's accredited and was mentioned to me by admissions, so it should. It's also worth 4 credit hours without a lab component which I found surprising.

Did anyone attend the BC accepted students' day? Or know if there is a Facebook group yet?

I'm not sure if there is a Facebook group yet. I searched and didn't find one. I would be open to making one? Maybe Mary Beth will say more once people have submitted their checks on Monday.

I just accepted for Adult / Gero!! Has anyone else accepted their offer yet?

I'm going for FNP!

I've accepted my Peds offer!

@PaiNP1 @yaycoffee_ I think we should make our own if we don't hear about one soon because I am in Facebook groups for the other programs I was accepted to and they seem to be really helpful. They have current students in the group answering questions regarding tuition, uniform, books, etc. They are also giving helpful tips like the equipment you really need vs. the equipment they were told to buy, but never really used.

Hi all! I'm dragging out this decision until the end here, but I was about ready to commit to BC until I heard some comments about the program being too fast/lacking sufficient clinical time. It seems like there is a lot of clinical experience built in, but I'm not sure how comparable it is to other programs. The only outside commitment I have is a dog, so an intense two years is ok I think, but I'm a little nervous. I'm fortunate to have a few options for programs, but I'm not sure what to do! BC, Simmons, Johns Hopkins, Yale, and Vanderbilt. But I think I'd like to be in Boston. Any thoughts? I've never posted on here before, but it seems like a tremendous group, and maybe you all have some suggestions or comments! I wasn't able to go to the accepted students day, which I think would have been very helpful. Was anyone able to go? What was the overall feel? Any major takeaways? Thanks for any help!

I didn't get a chance to attend the accepted student's day, but I just paid my deposit and will be starting in the Psych NP track in the fall. I made my decision only after speaking with BC alums and current students in both years of the program, so I would recommend you do that before making a decision.

Basically I picked the school over my other acceptances (Northeastern and MGH) because I heard from students that the program is fast but do-able (it's not much shorter than MGH's, really, they just make you go straight through the summer) and you just have to get into a routine. Only the first semester is truly intense, the rest seem normal. One girl did mention though that she personally would've picked a longer program to have more time to process the information, so that's something you should consider for yourself. Current students also said that staff are very supportive, ie. writing job recommendation letters for 2nd years, or sitting down with 1st years and helping them if their struggling with testing. Everyone said the clinical placements are fabulous and the clinical instructors are great - you get 1:1 on your RN perceptorship. You get the same amount of clinical experience as other programs, it's just more condensed. Alum I talked to had jobs before even graduating and felt prepared, but you could always do an NP residency if you don't feel prepared at the end. And BC e-mails out a lot of volunteer opportunities outside of clinicals to get some experience - volunteering at flu clinics, BP checks, etc.

My final deciding factor was that I got a scholarship and would spend a lot more money on my education at the other schools, I just didn't think the BSN was worth that. There's definitely a lot of factors to consider, so I hope this helps! Good luck wherever you decide to attend!

I just sent my check in for Psych. I need to take Chemistry, does anyone have recommendations for an online chem class with a lab? UNE has orgo but I'm hoping to find general chem.
