Boston College Masters Entry Program 2010

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone out there has heard back from Boston College for the Masters Entry Program starting in Fall 2010? I was told that we would find out in mid-January and I am very anxious since I haven't heard anything yet!

Thanks in advance for your response!

lrc13 and nic27 - great to find potential future classmates!! Are you both from Boston or will this be a change of city for you? My only problem with BC and the only thing keeping me from saying I am 100% sure is the Catholic thing. Because I am doing the women's health track and I am extremely pro-choice, I was worried the attitude of BC might affect my education but I have asked around and heard that this is not the case. Other than that I think the program looks amazing! And I am psyched to stay in Boston!

p.s. lrc13: can you email me the link? My email is my username on here AT gmail dot com...thanks!

Oh yikes, I hadn't thought of that! I'm not sure how personal messages work....I think you might need a minimum number of posts to do that, but I'm new to this site so I'm really not sure. That's okay, I should be able to search for it. Thanks for trying!

Good to find you as well, lenac1122! I currently live in Boston. How about yourself? I'm pro-choice as well so I definitely understand your concern. I'm glad to hear that the people you've talked to don't seem to think that the school's religious affiliation influences the curriculum.

My main concern has to do with it being such an accelerated program. It's a little scary to think that in just two years, we will hopefully be starting our first NP positions! I've read a number of posts by BCgradnurse and others, though, which made me feel better about it. Overall, I've heard great things about the program and am really excited to get started!

So glad to hear we're in the same boat! I work at Harvard Vanguard and I know an NP who did the masters entry program at BC and graduated in 2008 and she said it was crazy hectic but she definitely felt prepared and ready to work. I think that honestly the most learning happens after you finish school and start practicing and seeing patients regularly. I'm sure we will have a crazy two years but I don't have doubts that we will be prepared to make great clinicians. Feel free to email me (I put my email the previous post) if you want to talk more!

Hey all!

I also got accepted to BC in Family NP. Im going to visit BC at the end of March to check out the school. I live in San Francisco so it will be a big change. I also got into UCLA in a CNL program and now I am torn with what I should do. Any suggestions? Im also nervous about how prepared I will be doing a program in only 2 years and then able to be a NP? Also the cost of the program is much more than UCLA...Those of you who live there, where do you suggest I look for an apartment? I have so many questions....Any other FNP options out there?

BESTS!!!!!

Hi NP to be! BC is on the B-line of the metro but you can walk there from the D and C lines as well. I would look in the Alston/Brighton are (more urban and younger), or Newton/Chestnut Hill (suburbs with more families). I don't know much about the CA programs but I have talked to a few BC grads who said the program was intense but they felt prepared to practice after-wards. I hope you enjoy your trip out here to Boston, it is still pretty cold.

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering for those who have decided to go to BC, why you think the program is best for you. I was accepted to the women's health track and have sent in my deposit. I actually had my heart set on MGH, but just today found out I was waitlisted :( There is clearly still a chance I might be accepted to MGH, but since my deposit is already into BC, I'm starting to get excited about the program and wanted to hear what you all have to say!

Thanks!

Dgrimm, I don't want everybody to start yelling at me or anything, but BC is a better program. I'm sure you'll get into MGHIHP if you really want to go there, but BC has a much stronger University affiliation, stronger research history, a better range of available facilities for you as a student. I have had a couple of NP's tell me that as I was seeking advice on where to go.

I got into both, and I really liked MGH, and it's a good school, the faculty seemed really great and caring, and I am positive that its graduates get good jobs and are just as successful, but I wouldn't mourn it, or give up the opportunity to go to BC. Feel good about it. Or, on that same argument, go to MGH, because they are both excellent options.

Does anyone know what the day-to-day schedule is like for BC master's entry students? I'm sure it varies, but I was just hoping to get a sense of the daily routine, i.e. when are classes, clinicals, etc. Thanks!

Has anyone heard more day to day about BC?

Hi lenac1122,

I know I am a little late in this response, but I am also trying to figure out whether to attend BC, Yale, or Columbia and saw that you are in the same situation. It seems you are pretty set on BC and I was wondering if you would mind sharing your reasons for choosing BC over the schools?

Yes I definitely second that. I'm 95% sure I"m going to BC, but i would love to hear how people who are going there for next year came about that decision. What made you decide BC? Any suggestions on how to make the decision? Thanks!:D
