Boston College Masters Entry Program 2010
Hi there, I'm still trying to figure out financial aid stuff as well so I don't think I can be much help. One thing, though, is that I believe they included an estimate of living expenses (even if you're living off campus) in the $50K cost of attendance figure. I was nervous, too, because when you multiply the cost per credit by the approx. number of credits, it comes out to $33K or so- about $20K less than it says on our financial aid notification. Definitely worth calling to confirm, but that was my understanding when I asked. Micronerd- I haven't received any other info since that original email either. I hope we hear from them again soon- would be nice to have a sense of what to expect in the fall!

Does anyone have advice on which CPR training course to sign-up for? It sounds like BC recommends either the Red Cross "CPR for Rescue Professionals" or American Heart Association "BLS for Health Care Professional." I'm hoping to take the course in MA sometime in June. Any recommendations?

Considering Entry-MSN/FNP Program - Questions about FNP career
Hi BCgradnurse, Thanks so much for all your insightful comments about the BC Master's Entry program. I've read a number of your posts over the past several months and found them to be extremely helpful. I'm starting the program next fall and was wondering if you might be able to write a bit about the day-to-day schedule. I'm sure it varies a great deal semester-to-semester but I was just hoping to get a sense of what to expect first semester, i.e. are there certain days when we'll typically be in class from 8am-5pm, etc? I was also wondering about taking the NCLEX over the summer between our first and second years. Was there some flexibility in choosing that date (so long as it's before second year starts), or does everyone take it at the same time? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much! Also,

cjm22- congrats on your decision! hope to meet you soon! Dgrimm- I'm taking A&P at Mass Bay CC right now and it's not bad at all. Not sure if that's convenient for you (there's a campus in Wellesley and Framingham) but I believe they offer summer courses as well. Might be worth checking out. kp002- I completely agree with you that BC hasn't been the best about sharing information so far! I haven't heard anything since that first email with information about immunizations, prereqs, etc. I've scoured their website and still have so many questions! I really wish they had an open house or something along those lines this spring. If you do decide on BC, feel free to be in touch if you have questions about the Boston, and either way, good luck with your move to the east coast!

Boston College Masters Entry Program 2010
Hi there, I’m almost positive that I’ll be attending BC next fall, so I’m happy to share my thoughts. There were a number of factors that went into my decisions. First, for personal reasons, I wanted to stay in the Boston area. Having worked/interned at hospitals in the area for several years, I am well aware of BC Nursing’s strong reputation. I think that will open doors when it comes time to apply for jobs, particularly in this area. I’m not sure how recently the master’s entry program was developed, but the Connell School itself is well-established, more so than other comparable schools like MGH. I was also accepted at MGH and was impressed with their program; however, I wanted the university affiliation that BC offers. In addition, it seems like BC has access to good clinical placements, as well as a plethora of research opportunities if that’s of interest. I like the fact that the master’s entry program is so small and tight-knit (I’ve heard 35-40 students per class). I think that’s fairly unique for these programs and hope that it will allow for stronger relationships with faculty and classmates. I also like the fact that the ME program is so accelerated and goes straight through the first summer. I admit that I am nervous about it being two years instead of three, but I’m confident that BC will prepare us well to enter the NP profession. I’m expecting it to be a very fast-paced, intense two years, so I can certainly understand why that wouldn’t be ideal for everyone, especially people with families or who hope to work full-time during school. All in all, the experience is what you make of it. It’s hard to go wrong with other comparable schools, but those are just some of my thoughts on BC. I'd love to hear what other people are thinking. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know what the day-to-day schedule is like for BC master's entry students? I'm sure it varies, but I was just hoping to get a sense of the daily routine, i.e. when are classes, clinicals, etc. Thanks!

Good to find you as well, lenac1122! I currently live in Boston. How about yourself? I'm pro-choice as well so I definitely understand your concern. I'm glad to hear that the people you've talked to don't seem to think that the school's religious affiliation influences the curriculum. My main concern has to do with it being such an accelerated program. It's a little scary to think that in just two years, we will hopefully be starting our first NP positions! I've read a number of posts by BCgradnurse and others, though, which made me feel better about it. Overall, I've heard great things about the program and am really excited to get started!

Oh yikes, I hadn't thought of that! I'm not sure how personal messages work....I think you might need a minimum number of posts to do that, but I'm new to this site so I'm really not sure. That's okay, I should be able to search for it. Thanks for trying!

MGH aceptance
I applied to MGH's direct entry program but haven't heard back yet. I was under the impression that we'd be hearing about this time. Has anyone heard back yet?

Congrats on your acceptances! I'm in at BC, UPenn, UIC, and waiting to hear from MGH IHP. I'm 99% sure I'm going to BC next fall. I think it'd be great if we could get a thread going among people who are admitted/currently attending/recent grads. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the program!

I sent in my deposit for the AHNP track. For many of applicants accepted early on, the deposit deadline is Feb 10th so perhaps more spots will open up this week.

I wouldn't assume anything quite yet. It seems like people have heard at various times over the past two days, not all at once. I'm still holding out hope!

Congrats on the good news, everyone! I'm still waiting to hear, ahh! Does anyone know how many people they typically accept? I've heard about 10% but I'm not sure how many applicants they generally get. Congrats, again!
