  1. Hello fellow nurses! I will graduate from my WHNP program in May 2012 and I am trying to figure out where to go afterwards. I have lived in Boston for most of my life and I think it's time for a change. Ideally, I'd like to go to San Francisco, but from everything I have read on here so far, it seems like it is very difficult to get hired as a new NP, and that California strictly limits NP practice. I'm most likely still going to try to move to SF anyway, but I am 100% open to other cities as well. What cities/states have good job opportunities or are less limiting than CA in the scope of practice? I'm a super outdoorsy person so I need somewhere with some good running paths or hiking nearby :)
  2. Thanks for your response! Very neat. I think I would like it. I am curious though, what role does the RN play during the actual delivery? Are you present while the baby is born (lady partsl birth)?
  3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there who is an RN in a labor and delivery unit could help shed some light on what your daily work life is like. I am a current nursing student and must submit a proposal for my summer synthesis, which is an opportunity to work one-on-one with an RN in a field of my choice. I want to do labor and delivery for the summer but I don't even start my initial maternity rotation until after the proposal is due. I would just love to hear someone's stories about what their job is like! Thanks!
  4. So glad to hear we're in the same boat! I work at Harvard Vanguard and I know an NP who did the masters entry program at BC and graduated in 2008 and she said it was crazy hectic but she definitely felt prepared and ready to work. I think that honestly the most learning happens after you finish school and start practicing and seeing patients regularly. I'm sure we will have a crazy two years but I don't have doubts that we will be prepared to make great clinicians. Feel free to email me (I put my email the previous post) if you want to talk more!
  5. lrc13 and nic27 - great to find potential future classmates!! Are you both from Boston or will this be a change of city for you? My only problem with BC and the only thing keeping me from saying I am 100% sure is the Catholic thing. Because I am doing the women's health track and I am extremely pro-choice, I was worried the attitude of BC might affect my education but I have asked around and heard that this is not the case. Other than that I think the program looks amazing! And I am psyched to stay in Boston! p.s. lrc13: can you email me the link? My email is my username on here AT gmail dot com...thanks!
  6. Hi everyone, I got into Yale, Columbia and BC so far and I am pretty much 99% sure I am going to BC. Anyone else set on going?
  7. Oh, ok! Good to know.
  8. So has anyone gotten a letter today?
  9. Hi Marinara, I am also upset about the 2/10 deadline but I am just going to pay it. I am most likely going to choose BC, even if I get into other schools. I would maybe choose Yale if I got in, but I won't find out until later in Feb, so I really have no choice but to pay the $400. It sucks but I don't really see another way. What other schools are you waiting to hear back from? And would you definitely choose another school over BC if you got in?
  10. Hi BCgradnurse! I can't figure out how to sent you a personal message so I'll just respond here. Thank you so much for getting back to me! I would love to talk with you more about the Masters Entry Program. What were your clinical placements like? I heard that it is necessary to have a car because a lot of the clinicals are in the suburbs of Boston, not T accessible. Do you think it is impossible to get through the program without a car? It is very reassuring to hear that you got a job right away. From everything I have read on this website and through word of mouth, it seems like BC nurses are definitely well respected in the medical community. I am very excited to be a part of it!
  11. Hi BKCNewGrad09: Thank you so much for your response! I am glad to hear that you loved BC and that there are other students out there who aren't Catholic. I am very upset about the no OCPs/condoms thing but you're right, maybe I can help to get that changed! I have heard from many people that BC nurses are well respected and have many job opportunities! Do you have a job yet or are you still looking? If you're still looking, then I wish you the best of luck! I may contact you in the future with more questions! Lena
  12. When I went to the information session, they said they got around 250 applications. I think the class size is around 35-40, but I don't know how many they admit to get that number enrolled.
  13. Are there any students out there who are currently enrolled at BC? I just got accepted to the Women's Health Masters Entry Program and I would LOVE to chat with someone about the program -- pros and cons, etc. Most importantly I am wondering how it is possible to have a program that is a full year shorter than the other similar programs. How do they squeeze it all in? Also, I know it is a Catholic school. I am not Catholic, in fact, I am an atheist and very pro-choice. Is your education at all affected by the fact that the school is Jesuit? Does your education involve any pro-life teachings? I heard that the student health center will not even prescribe birth control for the students. Obviously in a Women's Health program I will have to learn all about Birth Control. Any words of wisdom on this issue?
  14. Me too! Yay Women's Health!! It is somewhat upsetting that we have to send a deposit by 2/10, since we won't have heard back from other schools yet, but I don't care, I am too happy!!!!
  15. congrats joyslen!! when did you get your email?? i emailed the financial aid person and this was her response: "if you are going to be enrolled in a graduate program as a degree seeking student and would like to apply for financial aid you will need to complete both the fafsa and the bc graduate financial aid application. our website www.bc.edu/gradaid will give your more information on apply for federal student aid." hope that helps! lena
