Boston College Direct Entry MSN 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Starting a thread for Boston College Direct Entry MSN applicants for Summer 2019. Looks like we are the last class before BC goes to a DNP direct entry program!

I'm applying for the Psych/MH track, based on work/life experiences in the mental health realm. My cousin went through the BC program a few years ago, loved it, and has a job she really enjoys.

Thanks for starting this! I submitted my application in September...now just sitting tight. That's interesting - where did you hear that they are starting a DNP direct-entry program after our class? I wonder if our class would be able to bridge to the DNP if that is the case.

I am applying as well! Interesting about the DNP... that would be great if we could somehow bridge to the DNP (if accepted) like meilia said.

Thanks for starting the thread this year. :)

It was an email sent out on Sept 21st:

As a reminder, this is the final Direct Entry Master's Nurse Practitioner deadline that Boston College will offer. Students in this cohort will begin in the summer of 2019. Moving forward all Nurse Practitioner students will be trained at a Doctor of Nursing Practice level. In November of 2019, we will offer our first deadlines for the Direct Entry DNP program and/or our Direct Entry Master's Nursing Generalist program. The latter of which is designed to train students to work as Registered Nurses, rather than Nurse Practitioners.

Interested in the DNP, but ready to apply this year? Also, not a problem! Once matriculated into The Connell School, we will provide a seamless transition option for you into the DNP.

If you have any questions, please contact the Graduate Nursing Office ([email protected] or 617.552.4928) or the Assistant Dean of Graduate Enrollment & Data Analytics, Sean Sendall ([email protected]).

So helpful - thanks for relaying this email. I'm applying for PNP track and BC is my #1 choice! I've only visiting Boston a few times...is anyone planning on having a car while there if accepted? I am hoping that I would be able to get by on public transportation/ride shares, but am curious what other students will be doing.

I believe you could get by the first year without a car. BC is right next to the T and other bus lines, most of the rotations are in the bigger hospitals reachable by the T, and the Chestnut Hill neighborhood is very walking-oriented. Although the second year, with the NP rotations, I believe a car would be helpful if you have a far-flung rotation. Although it is a real pain to park in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood - an Uber or car share might be a more viable option, especially if the rotation is only twice a week.

I'm applying as well! I'm applying to the Women's Health track. Just submitted my application, so time to wait the few months for decisions.

Thanks for starting the thread!

This is great info, thanks so much!

Sorry for yet another question for y'all (more and more keep popping into my head!) ... does anyone know if there is an admitted students day type event/weekend following acceptances or on which weekend that typically falls? I would LOVE to chat with current students about their experiences and that would be an opportunity that I wouldn't want to miss!

Hello!

I am in the process of applying as well. I attended an info session and was told that a car would be necessary as not all clinical placements will be accessible by public transport. I think the students will be in groups though, so maybe carpooling can be arranged?

Just submitted my application for AGPC. Now the waiting game begins!

When are you all planning on submitting your FAFSA? This fall or after being (hopefully) accepted?

I think with FAFSA the sooner the better, but it is a pain. I'm aiming to finish my FAFSAs before Christmas/New Years.
