Boston children's hospital cicu

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me who the nurse manager is of the CICU is at Boston Children's Hospital, I am really interested in the posted job they have for an RN, but I haven't heard anything after applying.

I would love his or her email address just to express my strong interest in the position, if you should know it you can PM me.

What are your opinions on emailing a nurse manager after applying, is this going to come off as creepy?

Happy... (I need a shorter screen name)

Ummm.....no. And if someone does know, they shouldn't tell you. Thing is, it DOES come across as creepy/stalker-ish.

Go through the normal channels for application. Then feel free to contact HR and ask if there's anything missing in your application submission, that you're very interested and hope to set up an interview, like that.

Contacting the NM directly when his/her email is NOT public knowledge would make me cross you off my list, if it were me.

Just my humble opinion.

As we all know the job market for nurses is very tough! I had heard of other people at least getting their application looked at by emailing or calling the nurse manager directly, instead of hoping that it makes it past HR. I figured maybe being more pro-active would help, but you have made it clear that is not the case. Oh, well, guess I will just keep hoping!

The CICU Director is ************, ******* appears to be the manager. I wouldn't worry about being "creepy", most of the places I've worked only consider applicants that go through the extra effort of contacting the manager directly.

I got my job by emailing the manager directly. Never got any replies by going through the normal application process. I guessed the managers email based on my hospitals system of firstnamelastname@etc... For the email. Got an interview and got hired. You have to stand out somehow. It doesn't hurt to try!

I'd tread lightly contacting the NM out of the blue.

While I was in a different industry when I hired people to work for me, if I got a phone call - I found their resume/cover letter and immediately threw it out. This was also because I had clearly stated on the call for resumes, "NO CALLS." They proved they couldn't follow instructions.

It really all depends on when your email hits the NM's inbox. They are very busy and if they've had a bad day and your call/email comes through, they won't be happy. If it's been a fairly stable day and they have a moment to check things out and you catch them at the right time, then it could be a good thing.

Just know that you'll stand out...but it may be in the way you don't want to.

I just interviewed for this position and did not get it. I was devastated. I have a lot of the qualifications but there are a whole lot of politics to muddle through. I wish you luck.

Thanks MedFlightdreams... I did not even get an interview, as I do not have my BSN. So congrats for at least getting in the door, keep applying, don't give up! It is really frustrating that these hospital pass up experience for a higher college degree. I am in process of obtaining my BSN, so I am hoping to eventually get an interview at Children's Hospital at least. I would LOVE to work on their transport team!

I also just interviewed for this position and didn't get it. I just saw they reposted it 10/24 so maybe no one got it? I was told they would consider me for January and just need someone with ICU experience now, but I think they were being kind. I agree with the politics statement. I shadowed the CICU for 12 hours and made it all the way to the panel interview. Loved the unit, loved the management and leadership. Crossing my fingers they will magically want me this round!

If you don't meet the minimum qualifications, why are you wanting to waste the NM's time by emailing?

Your application was probably tossed because you do not meet the minimum requirements and the NM will not know who you are nor will the NM care until you at least meet the minimum requirements.

Awesome NeopediRN I hope you get it!! I will cross my fingers for you! I just applied to transfer into Pedi in my hospital and they will cross train me to SCN, so I am hoping I will get that position, so when I am done my BSN in a few months it will give me a leg up! I had two interviews and will hear next week!

I applied in the past to CICU at CHB, they did call me, nothing to do with not having my B.S.N., but the NM of CICU seems to prefer to hire nurses who have already worked in an ICU somewhere, even if it is adult ICU. I also had an interview with their transport team a couple years back, but didn't end up getting it, I did make it to shadowing with them for the day, but I was too shy I think :(. I don't even know why I was so shy, I was in my element which is transport. Oh well.. never give up, just keep applying!! Good luck, let me know!!

As I said before, I will always defend Paramedics but not when they get too far ahead of themselves and don't know what they don't know.

You have no ICU experience as you stated yourself. You have no BSN.

I do know this hospital and what you might think of transport as a Paramedic is a far throw from a highly specialized pediatric critical care transport team.

Finish your BSN. Find some ICU which will take you. Get experience as a critical care nurse. Then see if an elite team such as this will give you a chance. But, if it was my kid that needed transport, I would want a nurse who has worked for at least 5 years in a high acuity pediatric critical care unit or several pediatric care units. I don't care if you even have the 2 week UMBC CCEMTP course. As a Paramedic you really do not have the critical care experience to be on a team such as this. It is this area with kids where I do take a stance for Paramedic to realize how little education they get in Pediatrics. Kids are not just little adults. You need to critical care experience in a major pediatric hospital before you ever decide to work on a team like this.
