bosses working on the floor

I'm a nursing student precepting and I was listening to some of the nurses talk about this new program they are instituting. It's a program on how to be nice to the patients, it my understanding that it's a special program that the administrator had purchased in order to make the stay of the patients better. While I was listening to these nurses talk about this, I wondered if this administrator had ever been on a nursing floor. I asked one of the nurses if this administrator had a medical degree and the answer was no apparently he has an M.B.A which is great, but my question is how can he decide about what is best for these patients if he doesn't have any experience on a medical floor, I feel that these people should have to get out on the floor and work with the patients in order to get a better feel for what the nurses are going through. Any thoughts?

The "being nice to patients" is the new customer service format.. that requires nurses to smile, smile.. smile.. and kiss certain parts of the patient's and families anatomy.

Health care is a BUSINESS .. and hospitals will do anything to acquire loyalty from patients.

Loyalty from nurses does not appear to be on the agenda.

I have seen managers that realized the unit was swirling.. and offered to help.

I was at a loss to assign duties to them that would help the unit function.

Asked if they would perform lunchtime glucometer readings..

"I don't know how to do that" was my response.

SOOO far out of touch it is laughable.

Spoken like a true administrator.

Rainbows, unicorns, lollipops, and spring flowers.

Or an 18-year-old who just got accepted to nursing school. We "met" on another thread where I was being told that I had no clue about legalities in hiring staff, I didn't know a thing about what I was discussing--nursing assistants-- and that I needed some new nursing education, since I was "stuck in 1965" (before I was even born!). LOL I checked the post history to make sure it was the same one I was thinking of...did give me a good chuckle.
