Well, wont this be fun.

Our psych director (Phd) is a controlling tyrant. Not that I mind, but she is now getting inthe way of Nurses providing proper care.

Sectioning people after baiting them to "go off", doing her darnest to get the Nurse (moi) to give antipsychotics against a patients will (prior to a Rogers being signed and in the chart), barking when prn's are to be given (when someone gives her a dirty look), a myriad of other things. She even had the audacity to tell me what info I need to give and leave out of my report to the oncoming crew. Told me CNA's and Mental health workers do not need to know who is on an antibiotic or who is refusing/needing lab work. No, she has no nursing background and today aint the day shes going to incorporate any of the tenets of nursing into her thinking. Self centered and gets in the way of all of us doing a good job.......Is looking for a new place the only answer? The administrator is partially aware of the effect this woman has had on the staff.....last week a staff person left without even giving two week notice. The director was the reason......some people get away with stuff for an awfully long time.....any suggestions? No, she isnt particularly rational, lol.

How long can you safely and effectively put up with this??

If she is allowed to get away with this, time to look to a new place. With the shortage, better environments are sure to be out there. If I was there, I would tell her about the "nursing act" and to let me do my job the way it is supposed to be done by the state. We have reports to insure patient safety and proper transfer of responsibilities. That includes CNAs too...esp. antibiotics.

And......as luck would have it.....last night the phone rang and it was a nurse recruiter!! yah! She knew I was looking for a psych position at a larger learning hospital about a half hour away....I am sending her my resume this week. You know, it never occured to me to toss back at her the Nurse Practice Act....how simple. Christ...it I only had a brain....I actually meant for that post to go into the psyche forum, but my blondeness paid off....My collegues and I extend a thank you for that succinct reminder I shall deliver with happiness!! The wretched Doc can do without the likes of me. Matter of fact, I think I shall look up the NPA and remind myself where her territory ends and mine begins. If not, perhaps some DSS in her coffee will keep her out of my sight.

Maybe DSS with casanthranol-----a little something to put the motility into second or third gear......and what? no toilet paper in the bathroom? Ohhhh I HATE when that happens. My manager thought her med regime should include inderal and depakote. But then we both looked at each other and said "Axis 2----aint much we can do!" Ive even thought of just eating lots of pinto beans and broccoli and stinking the nurses room up so she'll leave. Even wretches who arent rational have noses.......

Well if on an individual front nothing can be done maybe as a group you can put her in the "quiet room" til she comes to her senses! (and WITHOUT prn's!)

Yes, a nice gentle "safe hold" into the reflection room until she has calmed and we know she is not a threat to herself or others---oh, and lets hand over that jewelry, sister, you might go for your carotid with that little silver wire. And no ativan either. How's about some Adderall??????? Maybe some time release dexidrine to help you stay focused on your mental health?and for goodness sake, sont go thinking about dashing your head into the cinder blocks, cause I might be writing a nursing note that goes on and on and on and on...........
