BMCC Spring 2011 hopefuls?

Published

I know this is kind of early but I just wanted to check if anybody plans to apply for the Spring 2011 nursing program at BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) in NYC. I just met the preclinical advisor this week and he gave an update that CUNY eliminated the need for non-preclinical students (like me who's currently at liberal arts at BMCC) to first change their curriculum to preclinical before applying for the nursing program.

Here's an April 30 memo from the nursing department for anybody who wants to apply for the nursing program:

------------------

TO: All Non-Nursing Students

FROM: The Nursing Department

DATE: April 30, 2010

RE: Admission into the Nursing Program

Non-nursing student who want to apply to the Nursing program please note the following:

1. Admission into the Nursing program is based on the GPA in the four required prerequisite courses (Eng101, Psy100, Mat104 and BIO425) and the overall GPA for both the Day and Evening/Weekend Nursing Programs.

2. Students who want to apply for the Full-Time Day Program must wait one semester after completion of the four required pre-requisite courses to apply for admission into the Nursing program.

3. Students who work full-time during the day and want to apply for the Part-Time Evening/Weekend Program must wait one semester after completion of the following courses: ENG101, PSY100, MAT104, BIO425, BIO426, BIO420, and PSY240 or SOC100 in order to apply for admission into the Nursing Program.

4. Please be aware that admission into the Nursing Program is also based on seat availability. The College does not guarantee admission into the Nursing Program.

5. In order to advance into the Nursing Program, students must provide documentation for one of the following categories:

US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, and International Students with F1 status, Granted Asylum, Refugee Status, Temporary Protected Status, Withholding of Removal, Deferred Enforced Departure or Deferred Action Status by the US Government.

-------------

By the way, for those who are applying in late October for the Spring 2011 program, make sure to bring your advisement sheet and transcript if you took some prereqs outside BMCC. If you're applying for the evening program, also bring proof of your current employment.

I'm sooo excited to apply and can't wait for October!

Best Regards,

Dee

Hi Guys, Im new to this thread! l think its amazing we can share our doubts & questions about the nursing program!! congrats to all who were accepted!!

could any of you tell me how much would i have to pay for all the vaccinations or titers (no insurance)?? totally lost and would really appreciate your input!! Thanks!!

Hey Caro1130,

Unfortunately I think the vaccinations and titers are a little expensive without insurance, but with that being said I think there are free clinics or low cost clinics that will give vaccinations at a cheaper price than the normal public would pay. I would definitely call around a few places and see where you can go. I am almost positive that you can get these done for not too much money, health care workers want people to get vaccinated and TB tested so they will work with the public to keep them healthy.

I hope this helps a little bit. I'll keep my eye out for some free clinics.

Hi Caro,

Did you also apply for the Spring 2011 program? If so, are you in the day or evening?

Best Regards,

Dee

Do any of you guys know where can we get the "nursing shoes" and are they supposed to be white??

ohh and I checked the price for the required books and is about $320 at manhattan books but I checked online and you can find them a little cheaper and if you are not picky about it you can also find an older edition of all the books for way less money (you can get kozier & Erb's older edition for around $20) and lets be honest it's fundamentals of nursing so there's not a lot of change from one edition to other, maybe the organization, but is manageable!!!

Hey Dee,

Yes, I'm in the day program!

Hey Caro,

Congratulations as well then! :yeah: Yes, I also checked BMCC's bookstore online. They do have used or for rent but unfortunately they don't say instantly if these are available or not. You might have to visit the bookstore itself. The used books are comparable to new ones on Amazon.com. But Amazon also has used ones (that can ship for free) that are slightly less price compared to BMCC's used books. Good thing I also have several books that my sister already owns. Our friend Bilis here is also offering her used ones (she's entering her second clinical sem), just pm her. ;)

I'll wait after the orientation before I check out some shoes, just need to make sure I'll buy the right one. I hope to bump into all of you Day people :D

Doris
